Does cooking raw meat prolong it's life?
What I mean by this is, if i've got some chicken fillets in the fridge which are due to go off in a couple of days, will cooking them just prior to going on the turn make them last longer or will the meat still go off at the same time?
The reason i'm asking is because raw chicken seems to go off quicker in my fridge than cooked chicken so maybe i'm better off cooking it before it goes off than end up throwning it away if it doesn't get used up in time. |

Cooking it will prolong it's shelf life. Freezing it with prolong it even more.

yes cooking it will preserve it. Cooked chicken should last at least a few days in the fridge if stored correctly.
But as mentioned you are probably better off freezing it. |

1. If it's only ever been stored in your fridge from purchase you can cook it and freeze it.
2. If it's been frozen and defrosted on the counter top or by microwave or in warm water you have to cook it before refreezing. 3. If it's been defrosted whilst contained in a fridge you can just re freeze it. That's the "official" guideline. Then there's my wife's guideline which is "Number 3, over my dead body". |
