I feel like a stranger in this forum these days

I have each episode of new who barring TDTW&TW. We have the 50th and "Time on Sky+. The last full episode I watched was "time" about a month and a half ago now, (second viewing).

I don't have much time to start a rewatch of New Who these days due to work and other shows etc.

Who else is in a similar quandary.

Well I grew up in the 90s so it was years till I saw Doctor Who for the first time!

I wasnt introduced though thats the difference! The only member of my family that I know watches it is my uncle and he is only a casual viewer not a fan I had to find it for myself!

Started watching aged 7 in 1963 and well sort of lost touch from about 1972 to 1978 when I got married. Girls and the pub seemed far more interesting in between.

I struggle to find time to watch Dr who. I buy the dvds as they come out. Still plodding through the season 7 set, up to the crimson horror. Still unwatched are day and time of the doctor, terror of the zygons, the tenth planet, the moonbase and scream of the Shaka.

I stopped watch at the start of series 6 as I felt Matt and Moffat were ruining the show. I started watching again when it was announced David and Billie were returning for the 50th. In the end of his run I grow to love Matt but too little too late for me , still hate Moffatt though.

Same here!

There may not have been any New Who forthcoming in the 90's(TV Movie aside), but there were so many new releases coming out on video at the time that it eased the need for new stories.

As for the longest gap on TV, then yes, it would be the big gap when it wasn't on in the 90's. Don't think I've ever stopped watching it since I started in the 80's, though my memories of the McCoy years are a bit hazy, which may be a good thing!

I think there was a 5 minute spot yesterday where I want watching Doctor Who

I missed the whole classic series on original transmission.

That has to count, right?

Still watching classic stories, but since after all the hype of the 50th and the crash of TOTD I've been a bit deflatted and not watched and of the modern ones. Not even finshed the last 2 DWMS and a new one is out. Is anyone else feeling this?

I don't know what age I was when I started watching. I have vague memories of what must have been Patrick Troughton stories which would probably have put me at about 5.

I don't think I've ever missed an episode of broadcast Doctor Who since.

Obviously there have been long gaps when no Doctor Who was available. I used to collect the videos and later the DVDs but didn't always watch them!

I've been listening to the Big Finish audios pretty continuously since they started and last year I started a rewatch of the classic DVDs in order (I'm currently up to Sarah Jane's last episode - Hand of Fear).

I have never become jaded or disengaged with the series, though. I find every episode whether classic or New a thrill and will always try to watch new ones as soon as ithey are broadcast. Sometimes, more than once

Only the time between McGann and Ecclestone.

1989-2005

It was rarely repeated in that time, and there was only one episode made in 1996!

Not quite right. In the early 90's BBC 2 ran a series of stories featuring every Doctor upto that point, I think they may even have ran 2 with Pertwee. They also did Planet Of The Daleks with a mini-documentary before every episode and they also started a run of Season 7 but think it got stopped after the Silurians, not sure why, maybe it was down to poor ratings.

Same here. Grew up in 90's and wasn't exposed to repeats or anything. Was only aware of the show in 2005, and it was only then that my parent's and other older people said it was this big thing that had been going for years previously. I was 17 when I saw my first episode.

Ah, I was buying DVDs from 2001 and VHS for years before that so I've not had a Wholess year since the show started.

I wouldn't say I'm disenfranchised with Doctor Who but I am disengaged. I wonder if I should try to watch all the episodes again before Series 8 starts.

Til recently I watched a LOT of Doctor Who, so now I'm wondering how fresh it is all going to be. Even series 5 is sounding ancient to me.

I couldn't watch the series with Matt Smith, thought he was pretty dreadful tbh, with his clownish overacting. I dipped into it occasionally to see if he improved but just couldn't stick with it.

Have big hopes for Capaldi though.

Didn't have Sky, I assume? Because UK Gold aired an omnibus every week.

I didn't watch for long periods in the 70s and 80s. Wasn't really that much of a fan but have liked the show more as I've grown older. May be the scarcity of half decent scifi today has something to do with it.

It has been a full week since I last watched Doctor Who (Terror of the Autons if you must know) - quite a long time any fan would agree! I did watch An Adventure in Space & Time a couple of days ago, does that count?

It would probably have to be December 2008 through to April 2009. I usually catch the odd Doctor Who episode at least once a month to every six weeks.

I was still depressed about the ending of Series 4, knowing it was the end of Catherine Tate's character. The Next Doctor had sorely disappointed me, there were few episodes to look forward to. At the time I had absolutely no interest in Torchwood's return, but then I knew very little about it, and we were a long way from a series of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

I don't think I watched any Doctor Who before I saw Planet of the Dead. I recall it being the only episode I actively chose not to watch of the show, instead choosing to watch Primeval - which clashed with Doctor Who for the first and only time ever. In reflection I'm glad I made the choice I did - Doctor Who disappointed, and Primeval shockingly killed off its lead character that week out of nowhere. I swear the clash was done by ITV in an attempt to justify cancelling Primeval (which they later did for the first time) but I'm glad I stuck by the show that needed viewership more as it gave me the better offering, in my opinion

1987-1996
1996-2005 (if you don't count repeats)
1973-1977 (ish - I can't remember )

I couldn't say. I was Born in 89 but managed to catch repeats of Doctor Who with my family when I was growing up but obviously it was at the will of my parents or whoever was watching. I'd say that the longest I've gone without watching Doctor Who from when I "became a fan" who could watch at his own leisure (this being roughly the time it returned in 05 I would say, A coulple months maybe? I normally end up watching it if I'm flicking through the tele and come across a repeat on UKTV or BBCThree one random day off work or something or if I've not seen it in a long time I'll catch one online I fancy viewing. DOn't have exact timescale but I'd say about 2 or so months without watching atleast 1 episode sometime.
