Definitely, the quality of the image against its surroundings is markedly different.

Why does the fob watch keep coming back in discussion, it was used as a plot device in one season (3 episodes) and will probably never be used again.

<nerds everywhere going back to try and spot it in DVD's despite the fact if this was genuine it would have been spotted and touched upon years before now>

the same reason I suppose as the Rani, Sally Sparrow and the doctors daughter are trotted out so regularly. For fans of such an original show the fans can at times be terribly unoriginal.

Reminds me of the rubbish that was posted when Donna made her final appearance in her story - her ring on her finger was flashing! It was just catching the light FFS!!

. . and another leaked picture of a guest star in episode two. This one should create something of a big bang!

Because it is such an inventive idea it has the potential to be used in a variety of scenario's. They could even use it again 20 years from now, as it dosen't, as a idea really take a lot of explaining.

Agree with everyone else about the photo though. terrible photoshop. They haven't even made any effort for it blend in with it's surroundings.

Not very inventive if used again though. Essentially, it was a plot device to bring back the Master any further use of it would be a bit flat imo.

The three episodes we had involving it showed it's use could provide two very different stories, and the suggestion that it could be used to explain capaldi in the fires of pompeii, whilst probably just wishful thinking, show's at least that it has more potential for future stories, as if it was used for this, it would be an episode that had yet another completely different feel to either of it's predecessors.

Most people think human nature/family of blood and utopia are epic episodes and the fob watch plot device contributes alot to their stories. I don't think the idea's potential is spent quite yet.

Im sure there are some who would have argued the potential for dalek stories was spent about 30 /40 years ago and yet there still going strong.

I think any attempt to use the fob watch as a way of explaining Capaldi in Fires of Pompeii would be very sloppy and unoriginal writing.

I also consider those episodes classic and the fob watch to be a well thought out plot device, but any further use imo would be unimaginative.

I cannot see the connection between The Daleks and the fob watch, the analogy makes no sense. The Daleks were iconic form the outset, they were not a plot device, they were an adversary.

We were introduced to the fob watch as a major aspect of the both stories, when we saw it again in Utopia it was more subtle and had a specific purpose. Any future use would have no impact, 'Oh a fob watch, so x or y is a Time Lord then', they would have to use it so fleetingly so its appearance wouldn't ruin any attempted cliffhanger.

Potentially a lovely little story if the Doctor meets an earth woman with a fob watch and tries to work out (a) who she is (Romana or the Rani) and (b) whether to restore her, or let her continue living a happy simple human life.
