I've just sent for a Silicone Madeleine mould from Ebay.
Are Silicone moulds as good as metal tins ?

I like silicone cake "tins". Nothing ever sticks and they clean really easily.

You'd be wise to stand them on a rigid tin baking tray when you're filling them and put the silicone in the oven on that tray, otherwise you might end up cake mix all over your legs/the kitchen floor when you try to pick the silicone up to put it in the oven.

You needn't ask me how I know this.

I've got silicone cupcake cases which are easy to clean, I also use them when blind baking pastry for small tarts, I fill the cases with baking beans.

I have a silicone muffin tray with a metal band for stability, it makes the most fantastic Yorkshire puddings, they are about 7 inches tall everytime.

I'm not a chef - just an enthusiastic hobby baker !
I ask questions because I like to get information from people who have used the things I am asking about !

I know this too, and would have given exactly the same advice on using silicone moulds

Exactly! Plus you do tend to get what you pay for IMO .
