Remember years ago when all the mainstream pop groups were mixed gender??

Steps
S Club 7
Hear'Say
Liberty X

Fair enough the latter two weren't as successful as the first two but my point is that as much as I love Little Mix and One D etc... I would find it really nice for a mixed gender mainstream pop group to come out again but without being cheesy as seems to be the case.

I know I posted a thread similar a while back but all the replies were like 'scissor sisters' or 'the black eyed peas'

That's not what I mean. I mean mainstream pop like Little Mix or One D but mixed gender. Six D were the best thing to it in 2011 but flopped :/ surely one has to do well again....?

Thing is with most of those groups is that you usually only hear the females singing anyway. The males in the group are pretty much redundant when it comes to vocals.

See also: Abba, Ace of Base, The Corrs

Fleetwood Mac, also.

BIB - Yes. Although I seem to remember there being a newspaper article about the fact that the guys in Steps were being paid more than the girls simply for being guys....That was bad.

I agree, I love it when you hear a male/female duet where the vocals compliment each other beautifully so there's no reason why it couldn't work.

Wouldn't be considered cool by the teens, in the minds of the record labels

Not really 25% of the songs on FM albums with either Christine and or Stevie Nicks. Have male singers, be it Lindsey Buckingham, Bob Welch or Danny Kirwan.

Rumours for example has 3 songs sung solely by Lindsey Buckingham and another 3 where he duets. Stevie sings 2 solely and 2 duets. Christine sings 3 soley and 3 duets.

In 2014 there's the likes of Paramore, VersaEmerge (now just Versa), Hey Monday, We are the In Crowd, and many many more. Plenty of mix-sex bands out there other than in pop.

Guys, read my first post lol.

I'm talking pop. I don't mean other genres or Scissor Sisters.

Mainstream pop groups was my point.

Yes, Allison Mosshart is The Kills lead singer and Jamie Hince is the guitarist.

You mean like really years ago...The Seekers, The New Seekers, The Mamas and the Papas, Guys and Dolls, Abba, T'Pau, The Beautiful South, The Human League... Guys and Dolls were cheesy but not the rest.

And they were all 'mainstream pop', it's just that mainstream was so much better then!
