Hey all,

What are some of the foods that you strictly avoid when you're on a date? Be it staining your shirts or giving you an upset stomach, we all want to be on our best performance when seeking to impress the other party.

Here's a list ranked according to the public:

Feel free to vote, comment or add on.

Definitely hot wings for me!

The worst food I had on a date was chicken vindaloo, it nearly killed me! I'd never eaten in an Indian restaurant before, and I had no idea of the difference between a korma and a vindaloo. I knew it would be hot, but I didn't expect it to make my eyes stream and my mouth go numb. I was only 17 at the time, I know better now.

I suppose it depends on what foods we like/hate. I personally wouldn't mind garlic because I love garlic myself but I hate mushrooms, the smell makes me gag!

You sound like an ex (it's not you is it?). I love mushrooms but she would never let me order than as she couldn't stand the sight or smell of them.

Only use chopsticks if you know how! Unless you look like a bit of a fool.

I would probably say anything that is both extremely chewy and greasy tasting!

I once met my wife for lunch at a Wetherspoons and she said afterwards that watching me eat my triple-decker burger with cheese and bacon was one of the most disgusting things she's ever seen (I needed to open my mouth really wide to fit enough of it in to take a bite).

So probably if I ever needed to go on a date I'd probably avoid this.

Jerusalem Artichoke, they taste great but within about an hour my arse just produces the most toxic smells so that even I have to leave the room

Anything you don't like, you should just be yourself instead of planning a food just because it'll be good on a first date.

McDonald's would definitely be one of the worst.

I was gonna say that. Except upon reflection if you both have them it's a laugh riot. Certainly break the ice. And the decibel limits.

ETA: That list is shite.

Oh yeah it was funny, but only once we'd got over the indignation at some evil chef including it on a tasting menu which he then fed to poor unsuspecting us. It was hilarious and disgusting and a bit like being under attack from your own body parts all at the same time, what it wasn't though was the vaguely romantic anniversary we were both kind of expecting. We got through it by getting very very drunk, so actually a fairly appropriate testament to our relationship really

I wouldn't have found it quite as entertaining with someone I had just met and was trying to impress though. It was memorable for all the wrong reasons

Ok fine I believe you - maybe a cinema like the odeon (because it is cheaper!!!!)

In fact the one I would go to has a KFC next to it - which is even worse than McDonalds IMO!
