Hello

I have a SONY RDRGX350 DVD Recorder 1080p upscaling. I'm trying to figure out how to set up the recorder to a HDTV for recording purposes.

The TV comes with Freeview built in. I do however have a external freeview box (Not a HD box)

Can anyone advise me how to do a complete setup?

Thanks

TV scart out or Freeview STB scart out --> GX350 L1/Decoder scart for recording via Line 1

GX350 HDMI out--> TV HDMI in to view on TV

No aerial connection to GX350 as only analogue tuner

Manual for settings / how to record - http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/RDR-GX350

There are ways to do it. But to be honest I would stick the recorder on ebay or gumtree and use the funds to go towards buying a Freeview PVR.

You could plug the Freeview box into the recorder via SCART and use that as the source of the recording. But that involves a load of faffing about. You would need to set the Freeview box to the channel you want to record then set up a timer on the recorder to record from the SCART input at the appropriate time. It may also be difficult to record several programmes one after the other on different channels.

Basically it would be very very very much easier to throw the recorder away, or use it as a player and invest in a Freeview PVR. And if you get a Freeview HD PVR then you can record HD programmes in HD which you would not be able to do with a DVD recorder even if you hooked up a Freeview HD box to it.
