Why is Zaarah so unpopular?
I always liked her but she was never very popular. She's been in Coronation Street and Waterloo Road.

I never really see anything negative written about Zaraah so I don't think she's unpopular or disliked at all. You have to remember people on DOI vote for their favourite rather than a vote to evict
Maybe it's just that whilst she seems a lovely girl she's perhaps a bit bland. |

Similar to the question of, "why was Sam Attwater so unpopular / low down when it came to viewer votes?" - both had small and forgettable roles in soaps a few years back and weren't currently on screens. Whilst Sam was a champion though, Zaraah wasn't memorable when thinking about your favourite skaters over the 9 years of the entire show's history.

But what intrests me is that looking back to the Series 3 voting stats, Zaarah started out well, but after Week 5 her support collapsed.

Apart from Suzanne in week 2 (when she topped the phone vote), I think this year the female vote was monopolised by Hayley and Beth, the male vote by Ray, so anyone else would have struggled for votes, not just Zaraah.

You need a certain fanbase or at least be a little bit known to do well in these things - which is understandable really though totally unfair.
Laura had a similar problem, so did Clare. They were basically unknown at their time, and Laura's claim to fame at the time was probably the lowest of anyone's despite being on TV. |

I think if more people were voting on ability she'd have done better. I think she was pretty good.

I could be wrong, but I don't think she was really unpopular, I suspect she was generally liked, just not enough people liked her enough to vote. Often when someones voted out they think its because they're disliked - its not necessarily the case when its a vote to save. It just means not enough people have her as their favourite. Someone could get 20% of the vote and be loved by that 20%, but hated by the other 80%, while someone might get 1% of the vote but be generally liked by everyone, just not their No 1.
I also think she was generally liked during her series, to the point where her skating skills were overrated. Quote:

In any case, she finished 3rd, she wasn't even in it until week 3, and there's really only one week (6) when her percentage was way down. Week 3: 7.88% Week 4: 12.85% Week 5: 9.08% Week 6: 3.30% ![]() Week 7: 7.87% Week 8: 10.68% Week 9: 8.60% Final: 7.43% (Source: Wikipedia.) I don't know what happened in Week 6, but it was also a low for Suzanne (15.41%, the only time she had less than 20%), and it was the week when Chris had his highest percentage (35.33%). There's a tendency for people to think that a given percentage is more impressive the more people who are in the vote. So Zaraah's 7.87% in week 7, when there were only 6 couples left, would be seen as a considerable fall from her 7.88% in week 3, when there were 10 couples. However, if the total number of votes stays the same, then a given percentage represents the same number of votes no matter how many are in the contest. Since so far as we know the number of votes was about the same in weeks 3 and 7, the percentages don't mean that significantly fewer people must have voted for her in week 7. (It would mean she had failed to get more support, but that's different from a loss.) |
