Ipad Air or Ipad mini with retina?
Young Turks

Hi

I have a Samsung S3 phone so quite familiar with Android but not so with IOS or Ipad. I am thinking of buying my first apple product! I like the Ipad but I have some questions please.

I use tubemate app on android to download youtube videos even in HD.

1) Can this be achieved on Ipad? (If it can what app would I need please?)
2) I know flash is a no no on Safari but what is the best alternative out there that would give full flash experience when needed?
3) And finally would you recommend Ipad Air or Ipad mini with Retina?

Thanks

sorry cant help with question 1 but I use 'Photon' on my Mini Retina for flash, It's not really a 'full flash experience' but it can be useful, depends why you need Flash really.

I choose a Mini Retina over an Air so it could fit in my coat pocket so I could take it to work everyday to use a lunch time, your choice will depend on your portability needs and how good your eyes are.

Go to an Apple shop, PC world , Johns Lewis etc. and have a look for yourself, only you can decide.

Thanks I pop into Apple shop this weekend to compare sizes, in regards to why I need flash, some websites I use still require flash but also my little one likes playing flash games, no doubt he would want to continue playing his games on new ipad as well.

Do you really want to give your £300+ device to a small child to play with? Accidents do happen, things get dropped etc.

Maybe consider a cheap tablet which supports flash which your child can use so you don't have to worry about it getting dropped.

Accidents do still happen with adults too, dont think just because a child is young they cant look after things.

My 6 year old has played on my iPhone since he was 1, he has his own Samsung Tab 2 but prefers my Mini retina. He's in year 2 at school and the kids use iPads in class as part of their eduction from year 1.

I agree, but adults mostly understand the consequences of their actions and take better care. Children, especially young ones, often don't understand that tablets are both breakable and expensive.

I have friends who, like you, have brought their kids up with technology, but in each case have given the kids their cast-off iPods or phones to begin with, until they know they'll take care of them. I'd happily let a small child play with a game on my 5 year old iPod touch. I'd be much less likely to let them have a go with a brand new iPad worth hundreds of pounds.

They use iPad's from reception at my local school - Apple actually gave the school a bunch of free iPad's and mass charging systems - but cunningly not a classes worth, so once the school decided they were happy with them they had to buy more

Definitely do a side-by-side comparison when making your choice.

Despite the reduction in iPad Air's size I opted to trade down from my iPad 4 to an iPad Mini w/Retina Display as it's much more portable, and I find myself using a lot more than I ever did my iPad.
