A few more question about R1

1) Do you need an NTSC compatible tv to play R1 dvds? Or will the dvd player handle that for you.

2) Is there a loss in picture quality because of the NTSC system? Or does it look just as good as other dvds.

Thanks for your help

1 Generally most DVD players output NTSC in NTSC mode so you will need a NTSC capable TV , but most newer TV 's are capable.

2 OK contentious issue this one, the answer is NTSC should looks slightly worse due to the fact that it has less lines than PAL, but generally speaking they have been authoured better so you cant see the diferance. In fact I would say that a lot of the R1 's I have is better.

Another issue is that the sound in R1 is better than R2, remember that R1 is 24fps ( i think) and R2 is 27 ( again I Think)
Therefor the sound pitch in R2 is slightly higher , so if your the kinda guy that has perfect pitch then R2 will bug the hell out of you

1) You do not always have to have an NTSC compatible tv. Most DVD players either convert it for you automatically or there may be a switch at the back of the player to change the output to PAL, SECAM, or NTSC.

2) You might notice a slight difference in picture quality, but to me, on my Samsung widescreen tv, R1 discs look just as good as R2 discs!

Usually the DVD player outputs NTSC in PAL60, or NTSC.

Most televisions can take PAL60, and newer ones also handle NTSC.
