I can't believe the difference it's made on my iPad Mini with Retina Display.

Shame it wasn't like that from the off, fingers crossed Apple have sorted themselves out, now!

no but the easiest fix is to make the image background larger than the image so if you're using an iPad with a 1024 x 768 resolution and your wallpaper is 1024 x 768 make the background something like 1624 x 1368. You should find this allows you to set the screen image correctly.
