How come almost everyone (apart from Jo Whiley) who stands in for Steve Wright is better than him? He appears to have no clue about music and just blathers on with the same fake old banter day after day. I love Chris Tarrant when he's on and Patrick Kielty isn't making a bad job at the moment either. Give SW more hols I say!
"Oooohh we luv you Steve oooooh" "Yeahhhhh gggreeat, here's another factoid, I'm ggrrreeeeeeattttt!" |

Answer: Because they aren't seasoned DJs, they aren't experienced enough and they fail to entertain. It's not about what music tracks they play, it's about the interaction with the listeners between tracks, with Tony Blackburn it's the delivery between those tracks, with Steve Wright it's the fun that goes on in the studio with the Posse. Kielty and Tarrant? Neither have an absolute clue how to keep a three hour programme continously interesting, Tarrant because he's pathetically childish and Kielty because he's simply boring, so boring that I turn him off and listen to Classic FM. The sooner that Steve Wright returns, the better. |

Steve has a massive audience and that's why he's lasted so long in the afternoons. But he could go soon. The radio 2 boss has a huge dilemma. He's under enormous pressure from the BBC trust to replace one of the 'big 5' daytime DJs with a female, but they all have really high listening figures. My understanding is that Steve is the most likely to be replaced, with either Jo Whiley or Vanessa Feltz likely to replace him. Obviously Steve will resist any move to move him to evenings or weekends though. We might hear something this year or it could be a few years yet before any change. It all depends on how brave Bob Shennan is. Incidentally if Steve were to be replaced it's likely that Simons drivetime show would be extended and start at 4pm, which makes a lot more sense.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree then! I just prefer my djs to have some knowledge/taste in music, that's all.
I quite like Steve's show, he is clearly a radio man through and through and takes great time and pride in his shows, although he does on occasion comes across as woefully ill-informed during some of his interviews. I'm not a big fan of most of his stand-ins, Whiley had nothing to say apart from reading out texts and tweets, I think Tarrant is too shouty and I find Kielty's habit of calling the audience "folks" very annoying. As for a DJ having "taste" I would suggest that only means they play songs you like. When people talk of others having "good taste" all it means is that their musical likes match their own. It's all subjective. |

It's been 'turn the radio down low' at 2pm this week at work due to the talentless yawnfest that is Patrick Kielty. Radio 2 sure know how to ruin a schedule.

It could have been Chris Tarrant, but he was taken ill early this month. So PK had to come to the rescue.

What are BBC Radio 2 playing at with there choice of stand in presenters over the last year or so they have been dire. Patrick Kelity to name one. Lets have the likes of Richard Allinson stand in for Steve the last few afternoons have been awful I have just switched off. At least it highlights just how good Steve Wright really is.

This guy must have a few embarrassing pictures of someone at the BBC. Why on earth would Radio 2 pluck an unfunny comedian from well deserved obscurity to be an equally un-decent radio presenter ? Having said that, I note tat BBC Radio Scotland also have an unfunny comedian on their books (that was a quote from one of their own (leaked) internal reports some time ago. |

Annoys me no end. Can I ask - if he annoys you that much why do you listen to his show which you know will be the same format each day. I change station several times a day due to me preferring certain DJ,s on the stations. |

Ken IS Radio 2. Popmaster is just one reason why I listen to this station and Ken's dry wit shows that he is perfectly in tune with callers and the music he is given. His comment the other week really did make me laugh. After an insipid track was played he said 'that's our record of the week.... and you'll be hearing it every day...'

Must say totally agree with other's who have said about getting Tony Blackburn to fill in for Steve that would be great and his BBC London show which is now 12pm to 3pm Sundays is fantastic with all that wonderful Soul and Motown.
I would also like to know why BBC Radio 2 only give Ed Stewart just one show a YEAR! at Christmas Stewpot should be given at least a weekly show on Radio 2 if not a weekly at least have him fill in when Terry Wogan takes a couple of months off. |

I think Ed Stewart has pretty much retired, but yes there has too be someone other than PK to fill in for Steve`- maybe one of the ex Smooth / Gold presenters will come to R2?
