Where has Mark Goodyear gone?

I'm sure he was on Radio 2 towards the end of last year, but it may have been another station.

I think Mark was last on Radio 2 a week or two after he left Smooth so that would have been late 2012

Busy running Wise Buddah I guess.

I'm always impressed as to just how many of the tracks, including the more obscure ones, Steve plays that I had on my 21st party tape 30 odd years ago! So yes, I love him, but can see that means outdated to some. I take the OP's point - he's hardly cutting edge, but thereagain I wouldn't expect him to be. He's just a natural whose show flows effortlessly and he makes it all look easy. Oh dear, I guess that makes him "easy listening?" Damn, I'm older than I thought!

Mark Goodier is on the Radio 2 cover list l think, but depends if he's called up. Richard Allinson might not. Want to cover all the time or not asked too. Maybe Kielty can't cover all the time, don't know what other work he does? Chris Tarrant might had been asked, but was taken ill.

Radio 2 is a funny station when it comes to there cover presenters. We all know who we like, but never seem too get them as the station likes to mix it up to give ' Something different every time'

Cant stand Steve Wright, but I cant stand Kielty even more......
I'd love to see Mark & Lard take over that afternoon show (didn't they have that slot once ?).... then it would be essential listening for me.

I would also like to know why BBC Radio 2 only give Ed Stewart just one show a YEAR! at Christmas Stewpot should be given at least a weekly show on Radio 2 if not a weekly at least have him fill in when Terry Wogan takes a couple of months off.”

Very good point regarding Ed Stewart , seems very strange that he is only on air once a year .

I agree he used to be inventive like Ask Elvis but not now he's lost his way.

Steve Wright in the Afternoon is the Radio equivalent of Match of the Day. It's become tired and needs a revamp, and they are all too much in their comfort zone.

I have the impression that Steve Wright is a really nice bloke...... unfortunately being a nice bloke isn't enough for me for a national radio station presenter.
I find him neither funny, entertaining or interesting anymore and he's too sycophantic to his guests..... the singing along to the records is just intensely irritating. I cant listen to him anymore and have to change channel when his show starts.

Sorry Steve, hate the show.

The man is a fool. He plays a trail for the new TV show, W1A, at the end as it is about to tell you the time, channel and day it is on Wright talks all over it. The ego is just overwhelming.

It used too be Ed Stewart's slot as well as Goria Hunnifords.

There's know one on the Radio who's been in the same slot for all most 30 years as Steve has. I know he had a break between R1 and R2. ' If it ant broke' and the BBC thinks so.

Is the old woman still there?

I like Wrighty's show; it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it makes office work a bit more bearable.

I wish the same could be done with Tim Smith.

Kielty and Tarrant? Neither have an absolute clue how to keep a three hour programme continously interesting.”

I don't know how anyone can say Tarrant is not a "seasoned DJ", having spent well over a decade as the breakfast DJ on Britain's biggest commercial station at the time. He pulled in absolutely loads of listeners and was hugely influential, so I'm pretty sure he was able to make a "continually interesting" programme for, I think, more than three hours.

Presumably the idea is you're not a DJ unless you've done overnights on a local station or something, if you came via the telly you'll never be a DJ even if you've done it for half your life.

or sat on a rusty death trap in a howling gale

CT was at Capital 84-04, (Lunchtimes before taking breakfast in 87) plus he did bits on BRMB i think, before that, so i think he's served his time

Had the misfortune to "catch the show" at the GP's earlier.
Good grief, it's so tacky, tabloid and then in his "Steve Nage" way, drops a semitone in his voice and says, "Madeleine McCann", "yeah, greeeeeeatttt."
Utter crud radio that can only be listened to by people who haven't a clue.

If she really was old, after all this time she would be dead.

He won't be going anywhere for years yet, he is going for the longest R2 serving presenter, so he will need a few years on Kenneth .

He could do it though, he does sound a lot younger than he is.

They actually split the 2-5pm slot into two shows, Gloria 2-3.30 and then Ed at 3.30-5pm ahead of John Dunn

When Glo left Ed was given the whole 3 hours until Steve came along and Ed shifted to Sundays.
