Hi everyone,First post today,I had a panasonic ex75 for a good few years,a couple of weeks ago it packed up so I bought a panasonic ex86 as a replacement (nearly identical at the back),

The problem is,when the guide plus has finished updating it turns the panasonic Viera tv Off as well,I have tried as best I can to solve it,but,I can't, I have checked everything over and over, but,no joy,

Thanks very much for any assistance.

Do you mean ex83 ? the hdmi connection will be dropped and revert to the tuner of the tv after guide ud but most modern TV's don't auto switch over these days .

There's no such model as the DMREX63EB. Do you mean the DMR-EX83EB? What exactly is happening and what are you trying to do? Are the TV and the recorder connected via HDMI and if so have you connected to the correct HDMI socket on the TV?

Edit - Ok. I've downloaded the manual for the 83. Have a look at page 90. Is the Viera Link set to On? Also check the other Viera Link issues. I also suggest looking at Page 78 and setting software update to Off.

Thanks iangrad/ evil c, Really very sorry for the confusion,my wife purchased this from john lewis, and the invoice stated ex63,i received a reply from Panasonic this morning advising me to go into setup and click on others and go to the shipping option, evil c, I am trying to stop the tv from cutting out when the guide update has completed, should the should the viera link be on or off?, I will turn update setting to off, and will check my connections and reply, thanks again to you both.

Viera Link is Panasonics take on the HDMI control protocol. It theoretically allows units to communicate with each other and depending on what is each end of the cable allow the remote on one unit to control functions on the other for example.

Try turning it off and see what happens. And if it stops this happening see if it affects the way you use the two units in any serious way.

I don't know why I'm spending so much time on this problem.....but anyway...I've had a good read of the manual and have you set up HDAVI Control on the TV? If you are not using HDAVI Control with the TV, then Viera Link should be set to Off (the default is On) - see Manual page 45.

I'm not sure on the connections either. Is it HDMI only or with SCART as well?

I'm also wondering when the EPG is updating. It says in the manual that the the Guide Plus update should happen when the recorder is in Standby, so the 'TV Guide download in Standby' should be set to On in the Setup menu. From your OP it would seem that it is updating when the recorder is On rather than in Standby, (which implies that the download setting is incorrectly set to Off in the Setup menu). If that's the case, then after updating I think (although there's no clue in the manual) the recorder goes back into Standby and turns off the TV as well.

And I was wrong about telling you to turn off the software updates because I was confusing the Guide Plus updates with software updates. You should set the 'Software update in Standby' to On.

If you only want to use the TV when you switch on (from Standby?), then you should use the TV remote (or the recorder's remote if you have input the TV code to control the TV with the recorder's remote). The TV will come on, the recorder will stay in Standby but will automatically turn on if you press Pause or Record.

Thanks chrisjr/ evil c,

chrisjr,Ok I will see what happens and get back,i don't really need the two units to work together, when watching tv I just use the tv freeview, and the recorder is in standby,i mainly use the unit for manual timer recordings and copying to dvd from navigation, thanks again,

evil c, Really appreciate your help with sticking with my problem,i have HDMI & scart cables connected from the tv to the recorder, and then to my sky HDbox, I will check tv settings to see if it is on,when watching tv the word guide appears (where the clock is) the recorder is on standby, and the tv is not affected ,

when it has finished updating the recorder returns to standby and then the tv turns off aswell, I turned the guide standby to off but it made no difference,i usually just use the tv remote as the recorder is in standby most of the time,i will try again tomorrow to crack it,many thanks again,
