Dedicated e-book readers are usually 6'' 4:3, so I think you should be okay with 7'' even if 16:9. Did you consider a dedicated e-reader, i.e., Kindle in this case? If you want to read books mostly, e-ink screen is bound to perform better than LCD screen.

The Kindle FireHD has a 7" screen as do a lot of other tablets
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...pf_rd_i=468294 However the resolution is higher and the overall display will be much better than those at the really budget end of the market. You may find it worthwhile to do some more research about tablets and consider spending a bit more to avoid future disappointment Have a look through this thread http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...ighlight=natpc and if you want something bigger than 7" check out post 18 (this is not a recommendation) |

Thanks all for your imput, is an LCD screen the same as a regular Computer monitor screen?
It will mainly be used for reading but with the odd look on facebook or emails. So was looking between these 3 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2910857025...112733&afsrc=1 http://www.amazon.co.uk/kindle-eread...eywords=Kindle http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cambridge-Sc...994457&sr=1-24 |

A black and white ereader is very limited.
If you going to be spending 90% of your time reading then it's fine. If not, go for a more traditional tablet such as a Kindle Fire. |

The Kindle you link to is an ebook reader only - no browser/email/internet access etc
The other two have internet access |

Yes, it's basically like an LCD monitor. Maybe it won't be an issue for you, it's a problem for me. If you end up getting an Android tablet make sure to get one with an access to Google play store to download a Kindle app from. It's your decision what to get. The Kindle will do one thing properly, the tablets will do more, but are not optimal for reading.

If you are reading A LOT (more then a few hours a day), there is no substitute for a e-ink reader and 6" or 7" is a good size to hold in one hand for extended periods. TBH, e-ink devices are so cheap its worth one of those for reading and traditional tablet for everything that a tablet is good at.
BTW, don't get too hung up about amazon, books are available from may places and there are PC applications that can convert them to something your device supports. |

Kindle is really just for reading but Kindle Fire etc., are overkill.
Tesco's Hudl (about £120) is a decent tablet and good for reading. There's a generic e-book reader and the official Kindle application available for it. Don't let Amazon kid you into thinking it's only game in town. The .azw format is just .mobi in disguise and .mobi books are available from many places, often free. |

Thanks all for your help. Its between these two now,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2910857025...401794&afsrc=1 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cambridge-Sc...pr_product_top Which do people think is the better quality or better one basically? I was surprised to read that one of the reviews someone said about the Cambridge that it can not be used while being on charge? Surely that can not be right that you can't use it to read a book on while its plug into the mains? Does anyone know? For sure won't buy it if it cant be used while plugged into the mains considering the battery life is only 3 hours? |
