It wastes everybody's time just for the sake of drawing attention to stuff that half the people who respond wouldn't have bothered even viewing a thread on were it not for the deliberately misleading tactics used by some posters to get attention.....

....Here's a suggestion if you want people to be interested in your thread .....

..... WHY NOT POST SOMETHING INTERESTING?

Hear hear! Although to be honest there are rather alot of inane threads at the moment. Guess that's the nature of things when all is quiet.

yup, wish series 8 would start soon .... It comes to something when even I don't start a thread because I can't think of anything!

If not "disappear", then some of the most misleading threads should at least be retitled. For example, the "BBC Approves Doctor Who PREQUEL!" thread is a good discussion and the mistitling appears to be well-intentioned by the OP. However, people really should be made aware that it's a totally unauthorised Kickstarter project by a bunch of Walter Mittys.

Well, one persons "Inane" is another persons "interesting" or "frivolous". But admit I'm looking forward to some solid Series 8 news...or missing epis....no, wrong thread. One lives in hope.

Well yes. If people want to debate what a suitable nickname is for an incarnation of the Doctor who isn't appearing on screens for many months yet then that's up to them. And I can choose to call it inane.

Well, that's indisputable. It's a forum where people can express anything they like. (obviously within reason!) However inane or pointless other FM's think they are. Don't think I suggested otherwise?

Is it really that big a deal? If you see a half title thread, click on it, and find you aren't interested in the subject, move on. Simple. It's not like once you click on a thread your obliged to reply.

I think we'll all be glad when there's some actual solid new material to discuss, but for now, I feel we should respect that everyone should feel free to post thread's on what they want to discuss, after all, one person's inane is another's thought provoking discussion.

If we 'disappeared' or barred any threads anyone found 'inane' the only threads that would ever be on here would be the spoiler thread and official episode thread, and that wouldn't be much fun.

true. But a thread title is supposed to be exactly that. it should attempt to describe the content of the thread.

There is no need for 'What if..' or 'Can the Doctor...' titled threads.

For instance the '50th would it have been better if' thread could just be called 'Should McGann have been the War Doctor?'. Its all about courtesy to other users of the forum.

Winter is nearly over.

Minor annoyances will become, well, not even annoying, when we have some sun in our lives.

This happens on fora every year.

Well if it'a a big enough deal for some forum members to consciously post misleading thread titles, for at least one to openly admit it in their own thread ( GDK ), and for another to argue for the right to continue doing so rather than offer to be more courteous to other users by posting titles that don't offer the false hope of substantial content...

...then surely it's a big enough deal for us to address just how unpopular this method of drawing attention to threads actually is with other forum members?

...because the general impression I get is that the only people who would object to this being curtailed are people who consciously do this themselves and aren't confident they could attract any interest in their own threads by sincere means...

...and I challenge them to prove otherwise by posting popular, substantial threads with self-explanatory titles

I haven't done a half title thread myself and am not exactly defending the practice as such, my post was more in the vein that if we start policing what people can write a thread on or how they can title it then the forum becomes a much meaner place to visit all around. As I said in my previous post, if you click on a thread and find it's boring to you, or that you've somehow been mislead to it's content. simply click off it again. you've lost about ten seconds of your time that's it.

Can kind of see why it is annoying people but it dosen't bother me personally.
