115 views and not a single comment?

Gotta be worth a bump...

Wrong on every level. And I presume J pop is Japanese pop? Terrible

I like the music, I found myself swinging my head around whether I wanted to or not. The stage show is pretty cool too.
The vocals are a bit on the cutesy side (though what do you expect from something called Babymetal), but they are bonkers enough for me to be able to appreciate them.

Overall I kind of want a bit of chocolate right now.

Fair enough and I do expect a lot of people will react the same way.

But my attitude to things like this these days is why not? It's different, and just a bit of fun.

I do not see what is 'wrong' it though...that seems to indicate some sort of rules to be followed and a certain expectation...but why not break the rules and do something different?

Having watched them @ Sonisphere, to describe them as "bonkers" is a massive understatememnt!!

In saying that, though, they drew a huge crowd and went down remarkably well. I think that was because, certainly live, the songs are under-pinned by a band who are very heavy and who can certainly play!

Whether they will be anything more than a 5-minute wonder remains to be seen, but based on what I saw on Saturday they could surprise a lot of people!

It will be interesting to see how Lady Gaga's fans react because they are very heavy and very loud live.

They're definitely unique, I'll give them that. I'm a huge metal fan but I don't really think they're up my street.

Having seen them live.....

It. Does. Work.

They might only be around for five minutes, but live they are very, very, good with a band of seriously talented musicians.

That still doesn't alter the fact that it's just a marketing gimmick though.

I too saw them at Sonisphere, and gimmick as it is, I agree with Glawster2002 that they went down extremely well with the crowd. I couldn't imagine seeing them for a full concert, but at a festival, or as an opening act they are certainly worth seeing.

Commercial exploitation comes to mind though - as far as the young girls are concerned & the backing band not getting credit for their contribution.Think I read the guitarist was in a successful Japenese metal band - name slipped my mind now.

Not sure anyone gives a f##k these days though. As long as they are entertained

"It's not because Metal Hammer has said 'check this out' or the BBC has, people have discovered this on their own..

What absolute utter bollox! They've been hyped to the hilt, including Metal Hammer

I loved this when I saw it. I think it's a really interesting idea, even if it's not "real metal" or is just a marketing gimmick. Well, everyone has to make money, even metal bands.

It's even more funny if you read the English translation. They are just singing about how much they love chocolate...

I bloody love this .. it's genius

I must admit when the video started and the middle one was standing there, I was half expecting her to launch into a death metal growl though ..

It's just so random it works brilliantly for me personally.

I've actually found I've been listening to a lot of JPop recently as well and some of it is just brilliantly creative. I'm just waiting until i've got a spare tenner and i'll be ordering Eri Nobuchika's first album on import.

This one is a bit heavier than 'Gimme Chocolate'

This one is even more random ..

Starts off as a techno track with metal guitars, goes in to a hip hop beat for a bit, then goes almost full on death metal (complete with growling ) and then back to techno ..

Yes, it takes the cut up music idea to a new level.
I like the way it treats metal as a sound which can be mixed up with other sounds.
It actually works very well.
I can see some future collaborations on the way.
I can imagine Slipknot ft Babymetal working really well. Scary though.
