The way they treated Wendy Richard was appalling. Wendy said she hated what they did to her character in her last months on the show. She said the nastiness and spitefulness was not the Pauline she'd known for 20 years. In the end, she gave up arguing with them, did the job and left.

Killing off Pat was one of the most idiotic things they ever did.”

Amen to that. A very bad decision there.

That should have been his epitaph!

Exactly, all the palaver getting him back, then they do that to him!

If only he'd worn slip on shoes

I think he did the right thing too, but that doesn't mean that it didn't happen.

Barry Evans, the actor only wanted time off for pantomime

Derek (Mavis's husband in CS). The actor was devastated and the actress who played Mavis resigned not long afterwards in disgust.

Rosemary on Emmerdale. Apparantly the actress was quite difficult to work with so they wrote her out and killed her off screen. To add insult to injury, they had her coffin dug up and crushed.

Shame really as she was a brilliant character.

I don't think killing Pat off was through spite but I agree...worst. idea. ever.

Den's death did lead to a fantastic few months of episodes though

Of course, the ultimate one is Tiffany Michell in Eastenders.

Martine McCutcheon was on last night's ITV2 episode of Celebrity Juice - Keith Lemon is so hilarious.

She was as ever understand, quiet and also very funny alongside Ronan Keating (he was on the other night's 8 out of 10 cats, too).

Yes, she was. Martine was totally wronged by Mal Young & Matthew Robinson. And so was Michelle Collins.

Also from Brookside Beth Jordache - played by Anna Friel.

Yes agreed - it would be brilliant to see Den in the Square again now.

All that fuss over his return - and they end up doing that. Bet Grantham thought it all a bit ridiculous too, after all the hassle of him going back.

Agreed.

I would add Emmerdale's Mr Carl and Brookside's Beth Jordache, to my list.

Anne Charleston as Madge in Neighbours and Judy Nunn as Alisa in Home and Away were both killed off because of disputes with producers.

Fred Elliott in Corrie.

Collapsed at Audrey's. The actual death was off-screen visually because all we heard was a crash before finding out Fred was dead.

It just made the production team seem small minded and petty instead of being the professionals you'd expect them to be.

Emmerdale's Andy Devine (Shadrach), he only wanted to take a break from the show and he ended off being killed off.

Tom Lister was very unfairly axed by Stuart Blackburn. A complete demoliton of his character in his last month before being killed off.

Totally agree, if I made similar demands to my boss I'd probably get spitefully killed off in real life

I agree Tiffany was killed off spitefully. But I find Martine so annoying its hard to sympathise.

Pauline Fowler too. She was killed off after Wendy Richards said she wanted to leave cos she maywas livid her character re- married. Although in retrospect she may have left for health reasons.

Given how common this is now that's a little unfair.
