How will this work for surly this will need some sort of Wi-Fi or 3g signal to make it fully work.
It dose seem a very good Idea.

Most smart watches use bluetooth and need to be paired with a phone. Some have wifi and mobile data and call capability built in (watch phones).

Smart watches will be big one day but is the technology ready yet. There are issues such as battery life, bulkyness, functionality, practicality, durability to get right. Traditional always on emissive displays like backlit colour LCD and OLED are a battery drain and perform poorly in sunlight. New display technologies will be key to the success of the smart watch, Mirasol displays are interesting. It's interesting to see that Motorola are bucking the rend and going with a circular display for the Moto 360, a shape best suited to analogue clocks rather than other forms of information.

I have doubts that te actual display will be 360 degrees.
However a circular shape does lend itself to having 4 or so edge buttons, be it the real or capacitive type.

They are mostly remote controls for your phone, connected via Bluetooth with it. And they are all pretty much "geek chic", so not much for me. If I put something on my wrist I want it to look stylish.

I will just stick to my digital Timex watch for now I think. This is the thrid digital Timex watch I have have had in about 10 or 11 years and all three have been similar type Timex watches.
Watch did look good but if it uses bluetooth with your phone then it may drain the phones battery a little more.

Imagine charging your watch daily. Not something I would be willing to do.

You going to wear it in bed then?

I noticed that the Qualcomm Toq, possibly the most advanced watch is down to $250 now. That's with the wireless charging dock.
I'd suggest the next best thing would be one with an e-ink display. Others that have the 'screen off' simply lose much of the convenience.

Out of interest, anyone know how normal transflective displays like in the SW2 compare to the Mirasol Toq display?

No, but that's one more thing to think about and care when travel etc.

All i want on my watch is three hands, hour, minute and seconds and dial with numbers on, so it can show me the time.

And I thought you still relied on a sun dial in your garden.

This Google concept for a smart watch looks a lot better than previous Samsung versions but we are still very much at "version 1.0" of the devices.

I think smartwatches will have to become more autonomous, do useful things without a phone. They want me to control my phone with it. But, a lot of people are addicted to their phones and use them all day anyway. And if it is for a comfort of not pulling a big phone out of a pocket, I bought such a big phone for a reason, why should I use 320x320 pixel screen instead.
