Have just bought a Humax HD Recorder recently, and mostly watch TV through it because of the ability to get HD channels. However, quite often at night it will come up on screen "TV will power off in 1 minute" and then I have to wait for it to happen and then switch TV on again, when watching something it's annoying. Does this happen because I watch TV through the PVR all the time? Never happened before and I've had TV for 3 years.

You don't say what make of TV you have. The problem is likely to be cec control on the TV . Various makers have different names eg Sony - Bravia Synch Panasonic - Viera Link.

Locate the option in the TV setup menus and try turning it off.

It's a Toshiba Smart TV, unfortuneately I have lost the manual for it, or would have checked to see if I could find out why this is happenening. However, will go into the Set up menu and see what I can do. Thanks!

Went into TV Setup and found something called "automatic power down" and switched it to Off, should that do the trick? Hopefully! Thanks.

What model number is it. Very often you can download manuals from the manufacturers website even for models no longer being made.

By the way CEC link (or whatever Toshiba call it) only works over HDMI. So if you are using a SCART lead it isn't that. But then why would you be watching HD channels over SCART which isn't HD so I assume you are using HDMI.

I would be surprised if it was anything to do with CEC over HDMI though as I can't think why the Humax would send a random "OFF" command to the telly if it itself was not turning off.

Possible there is some timer setting in the TV set up telling it to power down automatically.

That's usually the option that shuts down the TV after a specific period of inactivity, which may well be the issue as you aren't using the TV remote presumably for long periods.

Incidentally there's a similar option on the Humax, you may well want to turn that off as well.

CEC control is called Regza-Link on Toshiba TV's and if you turn off the TV it will usually turn off the Humax whether you want it to or not.

Using an HDMI cable , as you said a Scart would be no use for watching HD. Before I got the Humax HD box, this never happened. Would it be best to turn the "automatic power down" back on? I thought that was what was causing it to turn itself off, but I guess not!

No leave it off.

As said above this probably kicks in after so many hours of inactivity on the TV. If you are using the Humax pretty much exclusively for watching telly then the TV isn't doing much. Normally the TV would see remote commands to change channels every so often that reset this inactivity timer. But as you are not doing this the timer gets a chance to time out and switch off the telly.

Yes you are probably right, I kind of thought it was because I never watch TV through my telly anymore. I will keep the " automatic power down" switched to OFF. Thanks to both you guys for your advice
