Panasonic DVD Player
hi,
Ive got freeview in my big lcd tv but when I want to record something on my panasonic dvd I usu find the channel on my sky astra dish and record that way. I wanted to record from one freeview channel last week and discovered that up on astra its a pay channel. I normally only use av1 abd av2 on my dvd player but I started exploring and found that there seem to be a lot of freeview channels up there Im assuming that my dvd player has freeview installed ? But strangely I cant get bbc1 in there and a few other channels dont come up. I recently did a scan and a few new channels and radio came up. Strange that so big a channel as BBC 1 is nt there ! |

Yeah it sounds like your DVD recorder must have free view built in.
I assume your TV is connected to the same aerial? The only reason I can think of if that your incoming signal is not very strong.. And the tuner in the TV is more sensitive than the one in the DVD recorder. Could you take the DVD recorder somewhere else temporarily, plug it into someone else's aerial (preferably a rooftop aerial) and scan again..... To check it can receive every channel available? |

THANKS for the tip.
My TV arial is going into the dvd player then from there into the TV so you d think it should be getting at least as many channels as the TV ! |

Do you get any of the BBC channels? If you get BBC2 for example but not BBC1 then there is something weird going on. Both those channels are on the same multiplex so if you get one you should get the other. If you do not get any of them then you are missing the entire multiplex.

If you have less signal / missing channels on any freeview device ?
Its possible that one of the 2 hdmi leads that you have will be routed up against one of the aerial leads . Unless the aerial leads AND the hdmi leads are well screened you will get the symptoms that you describe . Put the recorder on the signal test / manual tuning section of the menu and move the hdmi leads whist watching the signal strength bars on the screen . |

Thanks for the tip ! Might be worth investing in some decent cables to help prevent this happening again. If you have a wall plate where the aerial feed is and use a cheap and nasty thin cable from that to the recorder and similar to the TV then that is a prime route for interference. Replacing them with decent double screened cables may be of benefit. Also cables are sneaky little beggers. Unless you nail them down solidly in place they will twist themselves in knots as soon as you turn your back on them. So even though they are separated at the minute expect them to get tangled up again. No idea how the little b's do it but seen it all too often. Doesn't matter how neatly you lay out the cables, go away for ten minutes and they are all twisted up together. Real pain in the wotsists!

Odd, if it was interference knocking out the BBC mux on the incoming aerial feed you would have thought that would also affect the pass through to the TV and screw them up on that as well.
