Which Doctor would you travel with?

So, the TARDIS materialises in front of you and as the doors open a world - indeed a universe - of adventure is waiting for you.

But wait! That's not the Doctor you were hoping for.

Oh no!

You wanted that other Doctor. Because he had a cooler TARDIS, and his adventures were more your cup of tea. And you think you'd get on better with that incarnation than the one who's stood in front of you.

Oh dear . . .

So, here's your weekend question: Which Doctor would you travel with? Have a think about the following:
(1) his character/personality and how that would compliment you as are a companion (be honest!)
(2) his TARDIS (come on - that's going to count!)
(3) the places he would take you
(4) the adventures he had and whether you would enjoy travelling with him (e.g Pertwee was quite military, early 'Tom Baker' was all dark and gothic, Davison and Colin Baker were all a bit violent, McCoy was odd/funny, Tennant was all unrequited love etc)

Go on - have a go. But don't go with your first reaction. Weigh up all the pros and cons and consider where in the Doctor's long life would really think you would best fit.

1st and 3rd doctors purely because they are scientists. And the 6th because of his personality.

The tenth because he's my doctor and I'd imagine he'll be a good laugh to travel with- plus his TARDIS isn't office white which in my opinion is an added bonus.

Also Mullett, who would you travel with?

I'd love to get alone with the eight in his tardis

My first instinct would be to go with the Fifth, as he's my fave Doctor but based on the OP's criteria I think it would actually be the Second.

Not only would you end up being in dark tunnels and icy places, you'd get to meet the cream of the monsters and travelling with someone with a nice, comical character like the Second Doctor would be just awesome.

I'm torn here......I would go with Dr 2 - Patrick Troughton, and his lovely erratic Tardis, and his wonderful funny personality!
I would also like Dr 10 - David T! Good-looking guy, nice sense of fun - and a Tardis that works (most of the time!)

It would absolutely be the 11th Doctor. In my work I've been known to do a lot of spinning about and hand gestures and the like and was doing them even before Matt Smith was the Doctor so I can see myself getting on really well with him. Plus he just seems so nice, and fun loving!

Would want it to be earlier in his run as on reflection I prefered the warmer look to the Tardis. I'm actually surprising myself by saying that as generally I prefer a more sci fi looking console, but the colour scheme of the inside tardis these days just seems too drab and grey for me.

Plus if we include the comics then you'd get to journey into the Star Trek Universe with him and meet Captain Picard!

Think I would get on well with Amy too, being a true scot!

(Though that gets me thinking that the 5th Doc would be a very close second. As boy did he travel with some lovely girls! LOL!)

Not six. I love the sixth Doctor, but I just wouldn't be able to cope, living with someone like that.

Not nine. I love the guy, but it would harm by self esteem going around with someone as cool and badass as that.

Not eleven. Again, I love him, but he's too energetic for me. I could just imagine him waking me up at five in the morning every day, trying to force feed me fish custard.

All the others, bring it on.

Without a doubt, 8th! Great disposition, great TARDIS (my favourite), and get to go on quite unique adventures...

Definitely 8th!

It would be the Tenth Doctor, because the Coral console room is pretty awesome. And i kinda feel for him every time something bad happens to him. SOMEONE needs to keep him on the straight and narrow.

I think I would shy away from any of the New-Who Doctors, just because their adventures always end up with the universe and all of time being at risk. I think I'd find that a bit too much responsibility! Also, none of their companions seem to have a truly happy ending (apart from perhaps Martha).

So, it would be one of the classic Doctors for me. I'm the opposite of you, JackMShep - I love the old school white console room. And I think my Doctor would be the 5th Doctor, particularly how he was during his first season. A lot of his adventures were Earth-based, which I think would help ease me into the whole concept of 'time and space travel'. And I think he's probably the most human of the classic Doctors, so would be a bit easier to get along with. Plus he's easy on the eye, too!

Tennant every time. Just seems like the easiest to get on with and his particular brand of eccentricity was the best. Like his/eccleston tardis console room best also.

Thing is though, if the Tardis doors opened and it was mcgann or eccleston for example I think i'd just go with them anyway and wait it out for him to become Tennant. Any doctor earlier than your preferred one and he's always going to be the man you want eventually.

Tenth for me, he seems like an easy bloke to get along with.

Inclined to say eleventh as fezes really are cool. You know this. His humour amuses me and hyperactivity would keep me motivated. Plus I would like to do unspeakable things with Matt Smith's sonic screwdriver...

...but I would settle for the first. I would have faith in him. No nonsense genius. And I do love a carnapscious old bugger. I also can't abide clutter so his tardis would suit me the very best.

I think he'd have to have a strong personality in order to challenge me and someone I would respect and listen to.
If I were a companion I'd probably be a male version of a cross between Leela and Tegan - physical and alert but also very cynical and combative.
It would be good for the 6th Doctor to have someone to battle against that's not a smaller-sized woman. I would love a good scrap with him.
I think the 4th has more presence than any other Doctor, apart from maybe the 1st, but with the 1st you couldn't really square up to him and it wouldn't be a 50/50 thing. He'd probably call me 'young man' alot which would bother me.

I wouldn't like to travel with the 3rd because he kind of has that patronising 'I know more than you' parent/teacher thing with his companions. Throw in the regimented atmosphere of UNIT and that sounds like my kind of nightmare.

I'd say Sylvester's Doctor, as I thought he was very funny. I also think I would get along with him well.

Also, as an added bonus, the console room during his time is my favourite. I believe we saw that one for the first time during The Five Doctors.

I'd love to travel in the Tardis with Ace too. So, me being in the blue box with the 7th Doctor and Ace would be just brilliant!

Good picture of them in the Tardis!

I'd have to say the Ninth Doctor. He wouldn't take any crap from anybody which is mightily handy for me, but he is also very funny (almost dorky!). He had a real appreciation for the Earth alone so the sense of scale and wonder with the universe would be astounding, and personally I think his TARDIS was the best.

I would have chosen Eleven, but I hate his initial TARDIS "wallpaper" and quite frankly I'd get sick and tired of getting caught up in timey-wimey limbo all the time.

I wish there had been a male companion like that. Especially if he was wearing leathers like Leela

I would travel with the fifth doctor, I think for me personality wise I could potentially get on with him the most. I am generally easygoing so I think five would be best. I also like the TARDIS of the early to mid 80s - a design classic . I do like Ninth/Tenth's design the most but I am happy with Five's decor.
As for where he went and the adventures he had, he visited some decent places Spain, Amsterdam, the Eternal Ships in space and a nice game of cricket at Cranleigh. Also, although not in the OP's criteria, a bonus would be to travel with Nyssa and Peri .

Yeah, but you'd have to put up with Adric, Turlough being Mr Shiftypants and Tegan moaning a lot!

Nah, basically agree with all of that. Five for me. Although Two, Four and Eleven would be fun.

Ha ha, it's the price you would have to pay.

Yes all fun guys to travel with no doubt. Just thinking about it, Ten's brand of eccentricity and sense of fun would appeal to me as well.

Yep, for that reason alone, I think I'd go back to my initial choice of Fifth Doctor! Just to travel with Peri and save her from the sea anytime she chose to wear a bikini!

Ha, ha. The charms of Peri are all conquering. On this reasoning, travelling with the Sixth Doctor has suddenly become much more appealing also
