The catastrophic decline of the magnificent Ocean Whitetip - humanity makes me sick at times.

This video has been doing the rounds recently.
Personally I feel sorry for the Scalloped hammerhead as it was rendered virtually helpless by the fishing line, but the big Tiger was just doing what comes naturally - taking advantage of an unexpected opportunity for an easy meal. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2...merhead-video/ |

And now for some good news:
Basking sharks have been appearing in "good numbers" around Coll and Tiree, a wildlife tour operator has said. Oban-based Basking Shark Scotland said the large fish have been drawn to the surface to feed on plankton in a period of calm and sunny weather. I should add that basking sharks are harmless plankton-eating sharks. |

The magnificent Greenland shark turns out to be the oldest living vertebrate on earth (it was previously thought to reach 'only' around two hundred years or so), if a medium sized five-metre specimen lives for four centuries then how old must the very largest (seven to possibly eight metres) of these mighty predators actually be?
The mind just boggles. ![]() http://www.theatlantic.com/science/a...to-400/495425/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...il-theyre-150/ http://www.smithsonianmag.com/scienc...tes-180960101/ http://www.livescience.com/55736-gre...rtebrates.html http://www.seeker.com/this-shark-liv...968629990.html http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2...s-science-age/ http://www.loe.org/images/content/12...nlandshark.jpg |
