hi guys, I've got Sky+ and wondered which would be the best way to connect it to the TV, via RGB Scart or S-Video?

Does S-Video auto switch my TV to widescreen/full screen like Scart does?

Is there much difference between the quality of the 2?

RGB is a lot better than S-Video...and if you connect via scart, you should get auto switching.

Just remember to make sure both your Sky box and tv are set to RGB...

RGB Scart is much better then S-Video in terms of picture definition and clarity. If you have the option of both, choose RGB Scart.

I agree with all that is above. RGB is the way to go.

Spot on! BUT it all depends on what you are pluging your Sky box into. For example i have a Yamaha RXV750RDS av amp witch allows me to plug a number of visual components into it via svideo/svhs inputs. Now this allows me to control the switching with the amp BUT it also lets me have only one cable going into the tv! But if all I had was A tv and Sky box then I would go for RGB scart!

RGB Scart is definately the best option, the main difference is the colours, they appear noticeably stronger on RGB.

Having said that for general use the difference from S video isnt that great and both are pretty high quality connections and you should be happy with either. Just avoid composite if at all possible.

rgb though isnt as simple as it sometimes sounds , in some cases sync signals are required, i would just read your manuals to see if both devices are agreeable

Sky+ has an S-video mini-din socket.

Shifting the picture to the left seems to be a feature of RGB. If I remember correctly, it only affects tvs with one RGB scart.
Some tvs have an RGB setting where you can move the screen back to the right. Check your tvs features/menu.

It isn't a feature of RGB. The reason is that the television is set up for centring a PAL signal, which is delayed due to processing. RGB signals aren't delayed, and therefore arrive faster on-screen, hence the shift to the left.

How can a picture be TOO clear?

It looks like the terrible settings on his own TV, such as too much sharpness, has caused damage to his eyes if the 'clear' picture is hurting his eyes.

Incidently, I have the sharpness on my TV set to the lowest I can have it. Looks fine.
