No, but I do intend on getting Garbages and Kylies releases at some point. I have a feeling Kylie is going to be extremely hard to get hold of though

Get Cape Wear Cape Fly vs Sam Duckworth - Starrcade EP
Mazzy Star - I'm Less Here
Thievery Corporation - Saudade

and possibly

Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Junior

But I am probably to impatient to queue so will buy them on line after the event!

I normally pop along and see what's in. Pick some things at random.

Will either trek to Kingston or to Rough Trade, to pick up these;

Broken Bells - Holding on for Life
Temples/Jagwar Ma - Shelter Song/Man I Need
Nina Simone - My Baby Just Cares For Me
James Vincent McMorrow - Cavalier

And will have a listen to bands that sound interesting - like Saturday Looks Good to Me, Beans on Toast, and Bathory.

Yeah, the last good record store in my town closed down a couple of years ago. The building is still up though, and people still hope it'll come back (it resurrected itself once before):

There's still a couple of crappy music stores in town, but they're small and sell crap.

I wish I could but I can't remember the last time my town had any indie record shops. We don't even have the HMV any more. A real shame.

Record Store Day is a great idea. I know my local record store made enough money on RSD last year to keep them open for the rest of the year. The problem is that it has now become a moneymaking exercise for touts. They know that a lot of people want the limited edition products. Therefore, the queues have started earlier, the prices have increased and the whole day has turned into some sort of contest of who can get what. I think a change is needed to the whole idea of RSD.

Rather than having a RSD, major labels pledge to release a certain number of releases a year under the 'RSD' banner that are available only in independent record stores. The main difference is that the majority of these items will not be limited editions. That way, if people are looking for a certain item being released under the RSD banner, it should be easier to get their hands as the entire population of a town aren't scrambling to get into the one store that is selling it on the same day. This would also stop touts from buying items in bulk solely to sell online (talking to an employee at my local record store this afternoon and one person bought 15 copies of the One Direction picture disc and 3 copies of the 5 Seconds of Summer cassette because he thought their fans would be likely to pay big online). These items would no longer be limited in quantity so would be worth the same as any other record.

Surely that is the spirit of RSD? Real fans of the artists getting their hands on a new release while supporting their local record store.

Had a great time; watched two bands (The Rails and TOY) and bought some excellent records: Tame Impala, London Grammar, Disclosure, Little Dragon and Fear Of Men. Definitely worth waking up at 4:30 for!!!

Maybe a simple way to limit the on-selling slightly is to only allow people to buy one copy of each item.

I had a really great time, although I can see why people are cynical about the event on the day I just enjoyed the atmosphere.

I essentially summed it all up here: http://**********.blogspot.co.uk/201...xperience.html
