I'm going to sound like a total troll for saying this, but ...

Checked my TalkTalk app today and there's a call to a number I don't recognise, apparently made yesterday while the sole occupant (me) was at work.

Suspicious, I called the number from my mobile and it's an Openreach Operations Centre number with an Edinburgh area code.

Okay it's only 24 pence, but presumably the only way this call could have been made is if: a) someone had broken into my house to make a call to Openreach; or b) an engineer had tapped onto my line by mistake, realised he was connected to the wrong line after dialling, and tapped back out again.

Option b) sounds more plausible, given that there were Openreach vans in the area yesterday.

I'd been on the phone to TalkTalk for 20 mins tonight to ask them if everything's okay with my line but they don't seem to be able to understand what I'm going on about. I had to reboot my router when I came home from work last night because it was running a bit slow, so I'm guessing they're not aware of any issues ... it's just frustrating that they can't get that I didn't make this call!

Any advice?

I'm thinking of invoicing Openreach for 24 pence ... plus admin costs obviously ... just to prove a point.

Or the Openreach engineer had forgotten his mobile, or it had a flat battery, or there was a weak signal.

Either way, it was probably more convenient to plug in to the nearest available line in the cabinet and hope the owner didn't spot it.

Invoice them for the cost of the call and £50 for your time and inconvenience !

I have day time calls so never get charged calls on my bill i dont call mobiles so if a call charge appears i always check it
To my suprice i was charged something silly like 34p for a 1 sec call to 123 (speaking clock) which took a argument before it was removed
How could you make a 1 sec call and clear down the line in that time?

TT has a lot of these queries, usually blamed on engineers phoning the speaking clock ... whether they do or not I don't know and why they would I've no idea.
Usually money refunded, maybe after a bit of a rigmarole.
