Best written episode of 2014 of Eastenders tonight?
Tonight's 20:30 episode of Eastenders was written brilliantly I thought. I really loved the interaction with the various characters in Dots living room and there were some great scenes with Sharon and Shirley even if Sharon's eyes did that panto move of nearly falling out.
Johnny and Micks scenes were also a nice touch and I thought they split the Dot storyline up nicely |

no i don't think it was the best of 2014. it didn't have lindsay coulson in it.
the opening of episode 1 was a little strange, had the camera man been on dots sherry? however liked the shot of the raven. june brown shone in both episodes tonight. cora had the line of the night ' i'd like to propose a toast, to the lovely people of walford.' i did like the vic scenes for the wake. if this had been corrie, it would have been warm and lovely and rita would have started a good old sing song in the rovers, this being walford, there was an argy bargy ( and i'm not talking an indian takeaway) every one deserted the vic. nice scenes with ronnie and patrick. only criticism really was the stagey feel at dot's house in the second episode, with every one saying their lines one after the other. apart from that a cracking set of episodes. |

The best thing about tonight's second episode was that Nick didn't turn up.
First episode was OK, but not great. |

Probably not the best but definitely two of the strongest, June Brown was wonderful in both episodes, despite the mystery surrounding Nick's death and the fact there's obviously more to this story, I was completely convinced by Dot's suffering and mourning.
Scenes in the Vic were good, the Carters story's fitting in effortlessly, Sharon and Shirley, the community feel, quite a few good lines and the gathering at Dots in the second episode, it did feel a little forced but the intention was a good one and it worked overall. It was nice seeing a group of characters together that you wouldn't have expected, Patrick, Ronnie, Sonia, Jane ect. Just two years ago I would never have expected to see Sonia and Ronnie sitting on the same sofa! We know both characters so well but from different eras. |

Both episodes were very strong, but not the best. The dialogue was far too clunky in places for them to be the best written this year, anyway. I did love the tone, sentiment and direction throughout though.

The second one?
![]() I thought it was atrociously written. Bad dialogue and strange characterisation. |

Jeff Povey wrote both of them.
Daran Little's the other night was just mediocre IMO - which was surprising. |

Not at all.
Gillian Richmond's episode (Dennis reveal etc) has been the best this year. Probably the best in a few years actually. Followed by Daran Little's Johnny and Mick episode. |

I thought both of tonight's episodes were rather messy and cold.

They should ask a poet to write the dialogue

The first episode was alright, second had some of the most forced and unnatural dialogue I've seen on a primetime drama.

Director over-relied on the reductive power of the close-up. Obviously its effective but a bit cheap.

Definitely not imo I can think of a tonne of better ones eg. the Dennis reveal/Sonia's reintroduction, Johnny coming out, the episodes surround David's proposal in the Vic... pretty much any episode that has focused on Carol and clan.
It seemed at the start that DTC meant what he said about making EE the best drama on telly but lately it seems to be settling into your average soap mediocrity. That said I loved Janine's exit but even that wasn't exactly high quality drama really. |

I always find Pete Lawson's eps to be right on the money. The scripts are sharp, witty. Talented writer.

I enjoyed it, especially the scene with Mick and Johnny, but I wouldn't class it as one of the best I've seen this year. Still, both episodes were of a pretty decent quality.

Very enjoyable, but a far stretch to say its the best ep of the year. I could count at least ten episodes of this year I've enjoyed better than yesterday's. However on a side note I really loved the crane shot in the beginning of the first episode with the raven flying into shot, that was some decent cinematography that I haven't seen in a while on the show.

Hell, no. OP is easily pleased. Hope the writers don't read this, they'll stop making an effort!

Didn't think Friday's episode was as good as Thursday's two episodes, although it was a decent episode.
Although they were (on both days) not great but just ok, Thursday still edged it IMO. |

I'm sure Stick's first kiss will be the best episode of the year.
