I like everything!

The only time I've had anything I've not liked it has been down to either how it's been cooked or the freshness.

With seafood so much depends on the freshness and it being properly cooked. When we met my wife always said she didn't like fish and seafood, there are still things she doesn't like but after going to some decent restaurants and trying fresh things there's now quite a bit that she likes. Squid for example, you get a lot of people saying they don't like it because it's rubbery. Badly cooked squid is rubbery, properly cooked squid is lovely.

They are often hand picked by divers - so rather labour intensive. They are also quite delicious so can get away with charging loads!

I like all shell fish, but tend to avoid cockles as they are often gritty and whelks as they can be too tough.
I quite like oysters but often feel theres a bit of 'emperors new clothes' about them. Nice, but not that nice! And they used to be the food of the poor, back in the day.

Most you will eat in restaurants aren't hand dived, plus my point was I don't think they're delicious hence the query on price.

I feel the same way about oysters. To me they aren't very nice and I have tried them in several different ways. Scallops on the other hand are delicious to me.

Winkles are a lot of work for not much return. I can take or leave whelks.

Everything else I like and I'll put in a good word for sea urchin as they've not been mentioned.

I like prawns, crabs claws, Baltimore crabs, English lobster and Maine lobster. Cant dark shell fish and that is why I like crabs claws and Baltimore crabs.

Tried mussels, winkles and cockles and some other seaside delicacies but didnt like them.

This is the same as me. I tried but thought I was going to vomit so haven't tried again! Yuck, yuck, yuck. Yet I love seafood, nothing nicer than a tray of vinegary cockles at the seaside!

Well if you cook them they toughen up.

Problem is that they just taste like shit no matter what you do with them.

I have no idea how they went from being peasant food to being posh nosh.

I think they taste even worse when cooked.

Hate: Squid, clam and crab body meat (the brown meat)
Love all else I have tried and I keep crab legs in my freezer for when I fancy them

Hate almost all shellfish especially if it comes in a shell. I can just about cope with crab meat if served as crab cakes.

I love prawns, steamed clams, mussels... you name it. I've even been known to demolish a plate of panfried oysters. And if done right, geoduck is incredible, especially as sashimi.

I was lucky enough to visit NZ in February.
On the South Island on the East coast we had seafood at a roadside cabin by the sea.
A huge crayfish (selected from a cool box by weight and price), six huge mussels and six meaty scallops with rice, salad, bread shared between us and a beer each - £45.
It was on our plates within seven minutes and was an "experience".

I agree with an earlier poster about squid - my wife loves it but I am yet to experience properly cooked squid.
I usually equate it with a long, hard tasteless chew.

Iove -

Crayfish. I wish it was in more dishes, if I see something with it I buy it (within reason, if it has something in I hate then I won't buy)
Prawns, although I am funny about the ones with shells and eyes on
Lobster. Nice to have once in a while, had a great lobster curry in Cuba
Crab. I like the tinned crab in salads
Scallops, another favourite of mine

Defo hate -

Mussels yuck

Not really tried much else in terms of shellfish.
