Even if the price does go up Netflix is still fantastic value. It certainly is better value than rip off Sky.
Existing customers won't be getting a price rise for atleast a year according to reports on the net! ... It's for new customers only!

Which is similar to what Amazon/ Lovefilm have done. As I said I think Netflix is great value for money.

I got rid of Netflix ages ago. Nothing worth watching.
Then you've missed out on some good stuff since

A basic price rise for everything is better for me than having a tier system. That way i know i can keep watching on all my devices with no extra charge. With other 50 million paying cusomers im sure thats why they have gone down the basic one rise rate.

Just had an email from Netflix headed Important Membership Information, current members price freeze for 2 years.
Hi ,

In order to continue adding more films and TV programmes, we are increasing our price from £5.99 to £6.99 for new members. As a thank you for being a member of Netflix already, we guarantee that your plan and price will not change for two years.

You can review your membership details at any time by visiting Your Account. As always, if you have questions, we are happy to answer them. Please call us at any time on 0800 096 6380.

Just had the same E mail. Pretty good deal really to guarantee no increase for two years for existing members. Mind you I take it that if you cancelled and came back after a few months you would pay the new price when you came back. So quite clever on their part as members will be less likely to cancel at anytime over the next two years.

As an existing customer this is good news, particularly given the increase in the number of original series. I think it's an effective strategy for membership retention.

Sky Sports Mobile TV did a similar thing last year for existing subscribers, they froze the price at £4.99, though they also decided to double the price for the original package for new customers. Not sure how well that is working out for them.

Has there been any announcement regarding an exact date this increase is happening?

I'm still on the fence about re-joining so I can stay at £5.99pm, though I have other streaming services atm (NowTV Entertainment and Movies) so the Netflix probably wouldn't get used much initially but I know the £6.99 would put me off joining later on.

It's still good value if you use it lots but the thing is with 'all you can eat' type services like Netflix., Amazon Prime & NowTV is making sure you can actually spend enough time using it to get the VFM out of it, in the past I have had months where I was paying for a streaming service and a month or more could pass where despite having the best intentions to use it and there being stuff I wanted to watch, I just didn't get chance to use it, which is a bit of a waste....

That will give me two years to see if they pout enough new content on to make it worth worthwhile paying more for.

I don't mind paying more if I get something for it, but saying that Netflix is still good value for money. at least it works, which is more than i can say for Sky now.

I found somewhere which said that the Netflix rise was TODAY!!

It does seem to have let me reactivate my cancelled account at £5.99 just now - so that seems OK!

I'm fine with the price rise, so long as they back it up with an improving selection over the next couple of years. And as an existing sub I get two years at the old price anyway, suits me!

Mind you if we couldn't use Unblock Us to get every Netflix region in the world, I'd quit Netflix immediately.

Does that not depend on what a person considers what "some good stuff" is?

Some good stuff for you might be rubbish to others.

not being a pain or nothing but "unblock us" is not the only service out there and neither (in my opinion) is it the best.
i would go with "uno telly" all day long .

I've not had a price change email as I am already on their four screen option and have been for some time now. It is nice to see Netflix are being kind to their existing subscribers though.

I have been using Ad-Freetime for the last month and in my opinion is much better than Unblock. Its only £1.19 per month as well and also blocks annoying ads on your PC.

Overplay was the worst one i ever used yet quite a few people highly recommend it, it's based on our own preferences really there are a lot of smart dns services out there. Like you i personally prefer unotelly but my friend prefers unblock-us.

The new price for new Netflix subscribers I think is still good value for money, and even better value if you use a SmartDNS service to get access to more than 1 region.

Long may it continue, whoever your chosen SmartDNS service is

How many people would keep netflix if they could only get the UK version, not many in my opinion.

Quite a few I imagine considering that is probably what most people are doing at the moment.

I only get the UK version and find it ok. Yes the U.S version is better but I'm happy with the UK version and I'm staying with it. I do have Sky also though. But Netflix gives me some extra stuff.

The UK version will improve allready Netflix are starting to get first run of some movies in the UK, this will no doubt grow as contracts come up for renwal. Netflix have already said they intend to go for it against Sky for movie rights and content.

Even though I have access to all the other regions, most of what I've been watching lately has been on UK so I would defo keep it if that's all that was available.
IMO I don't know how anyone can say there's nothing worth watching on UK's Netflix as there's plenty of new and old things I've never seen that I do plan on seeing.
