It was only the first Patrick Troughton story I'd ever seen in full, after the recent one-story-per-classic-Doctor-fest of the 50th anniversary celebrations, and he and William Hartnell's incarnations are the two I'm still the least familiar with in terms of 'feel' and stories - I was born in 1967, so Jon Pertwee's final story was my first proper exposure to Doctor that I remember with any clarity (although I'm sure I watched a few before that too because the sight of him dressed up as the 3rd Doctor is so familiar to me).
I really enjoyed it - all sorts of weird in the story-telling, and very creepy in places. I've saved it in the planner to show my teenage daughters (who were introduced to Doctor Who through mainly through the 2005 revival, but who have heard me 'bang on' about the classic series enough to want to find out more!) because it will help them give a real personality to the 2nd Doctor. And of course, it was the first time I'd seen Zoe and Jamie as companions.
To be honest, The Mind Robber reminded me of the premise of the Jasper Fforde book 'The Eyre Affair' (a bonkers book, with many sequels, which presents the world of literary fiction as a real place where murders needs to be solved - you have to read it to get it, really!) and I wonder now if Mr Fforde got some of his inspiration from this story where literary fiction becomes a kind of 'fact' for The Doctor.
Anyway, have the rest that were broadcast yesterday lined up in the planner to watch later (have to get my Formula 1 fix first!) and the others all set to record. I watched the Like others, I wish there was a more structured and comprehensive pattern to repeats of classic Doctor Who (I can't remember details as to why, but I think posters in the past have explained some of the reasons why that would be difficult to achieve...?) but this is certainly more than I remember having access to in recent years since having access to Sky channels, and it's nice to have some different stories in addition to those chosen for the 50th anniversary classic repeats, so for now I'm very grateful for what I have!
