No, I mean there's nothing at all on the channel indicated after 4th June. So unless the channel is closing I think they will eventually get round to updating the page.

My 8 year old son has been watching the classics with me & is really loving them. He is currently watching the pertwee stories. He is enjoying the 4 - 6 part story arcs & believes these to be better than the current quick 1 episode story. Putting aside the fact that CGI hadn't been invented back then, he is watching the development of the story as opposed to the background or old fashioned graphics or "unscary" monsters. TBH i didn't think he would enjoy classic who but he is loving them.

Quick technical question.

If the channel closes and disappears off the epg, do the Sky Plus entries disappear too so you can't watch the stored ones?

If that's the case, I'd better get cracking with the Dvd transfers!

When a channel closes, you can still view any recorded programmes.

But don't worry, Horror most certainly isn't closing.

Cool Terror of the Autons back on I missed that one the first time round when it was on at Easter, I have all the others and I had the Hartnell ones they showed already.
Im archiving them all so I better make sure I have enough room to fit them all on!

The epg has Death To The Daleks as showing this coming Monday/Tuesday, 19th/20th May, so I wonder why they'd be showing that one twice?

Not sure if the otheres recovered from NTSC 525, but if they were then reverse standards conversion would have been used, but that wouldnt have made them grainy just lacking a small bit of information with the loss of some lines when originally converted to 525.

Remember that these early episodes were stored in an analogue format until recently (thats the last 10-15 years that they would have been transferred to a digital format) and each time analogue tape gets played it degrades and of course over time it degrades too.
Yes Im sure that digital tape degrades too, but the content wont degrade unless it cant be read.
I would hope that some of the analogue degrading can be cleaned up, but I would think there is only so much cleaning up that can be done and that they will come to a point it cant be improved upon any more.

With the titles, I know they rebuild them from scratch but I would have thought that they would want to keep the look they originally had.”

Some of the Green Death episodes looked a bit dodgy, titles and closing titles wise.

See they were struggling for budget at the end of GD.

Lot of Cso & studio mock ups in the latter episodes I see.

If you check out this website they say what they do, the titles are deliberately redone to look authentic and so they dont just use modern titles.

The quality of some episodes like some Pertwee ones that were early colour, they had to restore colour, reverse standards convert and contend with other issues.
I seems most of the time restoring things was just trying to undo that mess to get it back to close what it would have been, but its never perfect.
The reverse standards conversions ones like 3 episodes of The Sea Devils, still look lower resolution than the other 3, you can never fully correct things like this, as the information isnt there to correct.

Did anyone else have a problem with the Monday 19th morning showing?

My box didn't receive a switch off signal, so when I returned off holiday today, I was greeted with a recording lasting 4678 mins!

Everything I plussed came up as Clashed, Part Rec & Failed ultimately a Disk Full message but somehow Totp on BBC4 taped which is good!

That sounds like a faulty box I have been recording the Classic Doctor Who's from the Horror channel and I've not had any problems.
If you are a subscriber to Sky or Virgin then contact them, if your with Sky you could even get a free box if you push them.

It's not the box, it's just dodgy epg data meaning it missed the end of programme signal to stop recording. It happens occasionally.

So the 3rd doctor was done in by dodgy looking spiders?......

While watching the old shows on Horror, I have to say not once have I been caught/tempted by the adverts for any of the other programmes on that channel!

Maybe I'm just not a horror geek.

Same for me I find some of that stuff quite gruesome, I suppose thats the point though and some people like it!

Must admit some good stuff is on there occasionally.

'The House That Dripped Blood', the film that Pertwee shot between Seasons 7 & 8 was on there recently.

Well HORROR sometimes shows ANGEL which is a great series, though they show it in cut form at 1pm which kind of defeats the point....

I'm glad we're through the Pertwee era now, his po-faced seriousness really dragged the show down for me.
Why would you want to travel around space and time with someone who reduced the fun and wonder to something akin to an exam that he is constantly disappointed in you for failing?

Contrary to the highly dubious post reporting on a 7yr olds thoughts about the episode above, you can tell when Original Who has the legs to stretch through 5/6/7 episodes and when they're blatantly padding to fill time.
I'd be all for a few more 2 or even 3 parters in the Modern era but 6+ is stretching it beyond breaking point in all but the top 5% of episodes.

Still, he's gone now. Begin, Tom Baker, lets have some FUN

Looked in a 'certain place' & some kind soul has uploaded them about 2 years ago.

Was there a Dvd issued at some point as I don't recall a repeat ever being mentioned?

Must admit so far it seems like the Forsythe Saga but in colour!
