In the next few week we are going to be getting a new TV.

My question is is here anything that a smart TV can give me over a regular TV.

We already have an Apple TV, chromecast and now TV box so we have access to all the catch up services, Netflix, lovefilm, sky now etc.

I can also connect my mobile devices to the TV via the Apple TV/chromecast/HDMI out.

Are there any other benefits to owning a smart TV.

not really, the smart functions on tvs r along the same lines as those other devices. the exact smart features will vary from one make of tv to another as well, some will offer more than others. web browsers on smart tvs also vary a lot from non existent to poor to average, again how well it works will very from brand to brand.
theres no substitute for a proper pc/mac (connected to the tv).

Wifi is useless on my samsung smart tv f7000 40" - it needs a Ethernet cable - which is a problem cos my youview box needs a Ethernet (for searching) and on demand stuff.

Smart tv I use for YouTube / Netflix and amazon prime video - quicker than using my ps3

Not a problem if you put a network switch by your TV.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I will forgo the smart TV as it really doesn't offer me anything over my existing set up.

Would something like this work a non QC powered device? I only need one device at any one time, not sharing the Internet between two devices at the same time

Unfortunately, tvs now days all have smart features bar very cheap ones. I wasn't bothered about smart features but samsung dint make high end displays without smart features and gimmicks.

I already had two network cables behind my TV and I had the Bluray player and the Youview box connected but left the TV disconnected but the network options are better on the TV so I bought a USB powered switch and that plugs into the Youview box, result enough network connections!
