I had to really turn it up full blast last night to hear it and then when I turned to ITV+1 to watch Tommy Cooper it nearly burst my eardrums

Have they actually done anything to the sound at all? Or are they just thinking we'll fall for the placebo effect?

On the contrary. I know the story very well and was expecting anything but 'fluffy'.
Joss Merlyn was an absolute pig of a man. I saw none of that in the person who played his part. None of the characters were right.
As for being dark, I realise there was then no electricity, but I expect to at least make out what's going on in the gloom.
It was a poor effort all round and I'm giving it a miss tonight.

I'm not watching it, I have really no idea what was going on last night as I couldn't hear what they were taking about. I think I am gonna read the book instead.
