Elbow appreciation theead
I think Bruy's finest derserve an appreciation thread and I could not find one when i searched.
I love their first album Asleep in the Back and I think Leaders of the Free World and The Seldom Seen Kid are both ourstanding albums. I have found at least a couple of tracks I love on every one of their albums. Their latest release The Take Off and Landing of Everything is pretty good too. I like them for the amazing lyrics as well as their music and for the fact that they have stayed true to their roots and Guy Garvey doesn't sing in some faux mid Atlantic accent. So - do any other FMs like them? If so what are your favourite albums, songs, lyrics? How did you first come to appreciate Elbow and what are your initial thoughts on their latest album? |

Adore everything about the band. Loving the new album - as with all of their best stuff, it's a grower. I know what you mean about the lyrics, there are very few better than Guy Garvey around right now. How about this one to a former girlfriend? 'Yes I guess I'm asking you to back a horse that's good for glue, and nothing else. But find a man who's truer than, find a man who needs you more than I.'
Going to see them next week in Leeds which I can't wait for. On top of their many other qualities, they kick ass live. As for when I first asked 'Who the hell is this band??' That would have to be when I first heard Scattered Black And Whites off the first album. Stunning. |

interesting to hear from people that they are a grower.... for me they have been too..
i just think that they are sublime .... they have real substance to them. I tend to rebel against hype and listen to music with open ears and eyes. I adored 'one day like this' and bought the corresponding album which I dipped in and out of. I really liked their follow up album too and perhaps listened to it more as a whole album. I also loved their overlooked music for the olympics 2012. 'Dead in the boot' was so-so but i didn't know that it was a b side collection. The new album is just so subtle and beautiful. I would say that they are becoming a real fave Quite inspirational.
