I hadn't thought that but, yes, he looks much older in The War Games!
BTW: Mrs Napier-Brown, Vilma Hollingberry, played the woman whose leg grew back in The Doctor Dances. |

Equity Magazine of Autumn 2016 now available online, and the In Memoriam section brings news of the death of Christopher Farries (born Christopher Wood) who played the lead Sea Devil Sauvix in Warriors Of The Deep for Doctor Who.
I cannot find a specific obituary for him. Looks like it was around May/June 2016, according to this sole tweet. https://twitter.com/Zombula/status/738571311874723841 Now I see tardis wikia says 18th May http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Christopher_Farries |

Also Michael Leader, a background actor on Dr Who (The Leisure Hive, The Visitation, The Kings Demons, Mawdryn Undead), but more well known as the Albert Square milkman from the first episode, has died. He was also the storm trooper who smacked his head on the scenery in the famous Star Wars out-take.

A lovely obit to Michael Leader at that link. Seems he was a much-loved, much-respected man, and people who dismiss bit-part people as "just" extras are doing Mr leader and colleagues a great disservice.

Fascinating obits! What a career, and what a groundbreaking role he had in NZ cinema. I'd love to know the Cyril Shaps anecdote that Toby Hadoke alludes to ...

Shocked to hear that Abslom Daak, Dalek Killer creator and artist, Steve Dillon has died at the age of only 53.
Growing up reading and pouring over his art in Doctor Who Weekly/Monthly was a complete thrill. A veteran of IPC titles too such as 2000AD, Eagle, Scream! and Battle too as well as the acclaimed Preacher, he'll be greatly missed. Gone far too soon. RIP Mr. Dillon. |

http://announcements.telegraph.co.uk...5vv8Lo.twitter First saw him as Ambril and in a story with a number of very good performances, Carson stood out as the fusty, pompous antiques lover who didn't get the point of the Six faces of delusion until the Doctor pointed it out. "Gerrroutt! Goonnnn, gerrrouttt!" |

"Destiny..." was the first Dalek story I ever saw
It's not a great story...but not as bad as some paint it. (The whole 'logical impasse'/Daleks need Davros stuff is completely nonsensical, though!) And it's actually very well directed, I think. Some nice 'hand held' stuff. RIP Mr Grieve. |

Snap. Think it was because of the ITV strike that I saw this and City of Death as my family had gotten fed up of Tom and stopped watching pre Season 15.

Destiny is a right load of old cobblers, but very well directed. I am thinking immediately of the steadicam stuff, where the camera zooms across the quarry to the big bomb thingie with Romana imprisoned inside it. Really atmospheric.
There's also some good low-angle stuff that make the Daleks look more imposing than they otherwise would have done. The Movellan ship looks great, and the slo-mo bits with Movellans being powered-down are quite effective, too. With a budget of £18.36, battered Dalek props, and a workmanlike script, Mr Grieve did a great job. |
