I thought as a style it's not unflattering if slightly old fashioned but yes the symphonic metal image tends toward the sexist.

To me, the most beautiful females in music are Alison Krauss, LeAnn Rimes, and Tanya Tucker.

God bless you and them always!!!

Any bloke growing up in the 80's will appreciate Wendy James in her prime.

Good call, totally stunning!

She was also beautiful during the Vogue and ROL phases.

Heather Findlay previously of Mostly Autumn.

She kissed a friend of mine on the cheek, after a concert some years back, I have been jealous of him ever since.

Of course no woman has ever used her looks to progress her chosen career in the performing arts. I'm sure Kylie would have been just as successful is she looked like Igor from the 1930s Frankenstein films......

The Symphonic Metal image goes back to the Gothic roots of the genre.

Ironically whilst the term "tits in a corset brigade" would imply 99.99% of the fans are male, from the Symphonic Metal gigs I've been to, the likes of Nightwish, Delain, Within Temptation, etc, the audience usually @ a 50/50 split with many of the female audience taking considerable time and trouble to wear similar clothing.

I think the fact that female-fronted Symphonic Metal is, in general, less macho and agressive gives it a broader appeal to a female audience and I think for many that appeal extends to the "look" of the female singers.

Growing up, I fancied Justine Frischmann a lot. Nowadays, it's Alice Glass. I'm generally more attracted to actresses when it comes to finding famous people attractive though.

Interestingly, I saw this post on a Metal Forum a couple of weeks ago, from someone who was at the Within Temptation London gig - "The demographic of their audience seems to change more every time I see them, and move further away from the metallers that originally were at their concerts, now it's mostly a mix of young girls and 50 year old men."

That seems to back up what you're saying

My 'tits in a corset' post was a tongue in cheek reference to this book http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...ts-in-a-corset

I have to say I think there a lot of incredibly beautiful women out there in the industry, and not just 'sexy'.

I think Laura Mvula is a perfect example, she just has the most incredible face and when she smiles it's just beautiful! Lianne La Havas is another.

I also think Amy Lee is incredibly beautiful, not in an obvious way though, she's definitely got better with age for sure - and she's been glowing since her pregnancy (cliche I know aha)

Yes, I must admit, at the height of her fame, she had something special going on. Pity it all went to son of Donvan. BTW, by far the best of SH in those days had to be this solo track - (after the advert)

But, for all round fantastic looking and mysterious, the once and future queen is Kate Bush.

I was also at their London gig and, whilst it was probably said tongue-in-cheek, it wasn't true. There was, as at any rock gig, a wide spectrum of ages but the male to female ratio was @ 50/50.

However as a 51 year old man I do object to the often seen, and very patronising, suggestion someone of my age would only go to see a band like Within Temptation for a bit of flesh. I'm referring to the forum reply, of course.

Yes, I'm in the same age group, and hate it when idiots try to reduce me to their lowest common denominator. Recently having the fine fortune to get Kate Bush tickets, I was told gleefully by a young oaf that 'she doesn't look the same as she did at 19.' As if I was going to be stunned by this useless info, and rip up my tickets in disgust!
