Stella announcing she's off the New York to live,

1/ How will she support herself, she won't be allowed to work in the states and it's not cheap.

2/ isn't a visa required and can you get one on short notice.

Also she just happens to have an old school friend in the states she still in contact with willing to support (see 1) her, and put her up for the maximum time (6 months I think) you can stay on a tourist visa.

Also how can she afford the flight, she's got no money! Are we to believe the friend is paying for this as well?

New York in America ?

Talk about trying to overcompensate a lousy exit! If she could just go off to NYC why didn't she do it when her husband was announced as a murderer until waiting for a knock back from Kal for it all to happen.

I believe so Mo, but she might also mean the one in Australia.

That is some friend she has, taking care of all her expenses. However, it is New York, so I'm sure Stella will easily find a backroom she can bring people into.

Just looked online and she can only get a 6 month stay tourist visa with NO employment allowed.

To be able to work you need a green card which if you don't have immediate relatives can take from 1 to 5 years to be granted and that's only if your a "gifted" worker such as a professor or such, or investing $500,000 in a business creating 10 or more jobs.

The impression soaps give that you can just get on a plane to another country (usually at short notice), get off in said country, bunk up with a mate/get a flat or house, and go get a job with no hoops to jump through, no forward planning or money behind you needed really annoys me.

Ok thanks. Eva wasn't too sure either.

Eva certainly thought she meant Australia.

Residency and working rules are just as tough, if not tougher in OZ as they are in the USA.

If Stella wants to stay in Oz she'll be shown to the back room to pick up her basket for endless hours or picking fruit.

I had the idea you were only allowed to move and work in the States if you had money to invest in the economy or had a good job (vet, doctor, nurse ect)

Correct, see post 6.

It's just ridiculous! I mean New York FFS couldn't they have just had her simply move to Gloucester or somewhere else in the UK rather than implausibly flying off to the States at the drop of a hat

Not remotely believable!

She probably deserved a better exit but Michelle Collin's constant moaning is annoying. In the recent article I get the impression that she wanted to be the centre of the show like she was under Collinson and now it's 'poor me' shoved into the background *rolls eyes*

I agree her actual NY trip is riddled with SORs.

I dont get why they chose New York, America has to be one of the hardest places in the world to move to, where as if they said somewhere in the UK, it'd be believeable.

Actually, I was in New York last Thursday. Alas, I was on the bus, and it took about two minutes to travel through the length of New York, Tyne and Wear. Just outside Whitley Bay.

I think Stella means the New trailer park in York.

So shes going to travel and explore the states.

Wonder how she intends to fund this jolly, as when my sister did this for a month (and no 5* hotel suites) it cost her thousands in fares, food, miscellaneous costs and accommodation just for a months travelling.

It never ceases to amaze me how generous the old school mates of the Corrie folk are. How many of them have 'gone to stay with a mate' over/down in ____ (insert random city).

Stella's lack of money really is a joke though. Is her mate paying for the flight as well?

Why couldn't they just send her to Spain or Ireland or something? When a character just pops over to America or Australia it really does look ludicrous.

as far as moving to america goes. i am an american and my son got married to a lady from SA, well educated and worked many years in the DuPont plant there as a highly paid Scientist. She applied for a green card, had a job lined up awaiting her arrival up in the Boston area. The lovely us gov said no work and only a 6 mo visa then back to sa till her paperwork and monies are paid in to pay for the paperwork to be processed. That was $3000.00 up front she had to pay and they said it wasn't a guarentee she would get the green card. So my son packed his bags and moved to sa. I live in uk because my husband is from here and we didn't have the monies to get the paperwork started with no guarentee he would be allowed to stay in us and work. So I packed my bags 17 yrs ago and never looked back. UK is home now

How has Stella got no money? I thought Steve and Liz bought the Rover's from her last year.
