He was just unlucky he was caught. Shame he did not get a shorter sentence, but I guess they want to make an example of him.

He's got a nerve to appeal but that is his right as we have clear rules and rights in place under UK legislation, the same type of rules that he was to follow as a soldier and that he broke.
The Daily Mail again sickens me with its portrayal of this person as some sort of hero/martyr. |

He made an example of him, it was his doing.
He will win his appeal and/or be freed. |

There are a lot of old murderers in England, Scotland. Wales who are getting nervous about being held to account for what they did in Northern Iteland

I just visited the facebook page justice for marine a. They are livid, spitting feathers. It didnt take much reading to realise that the page has been infiltrated by right wing groups such as Britain First. They really arent helping him at all
We don't shoot dead helpless enemy combatants. It's called murder. |

They can be as livid as they like. Justice is being seen to be done.

I too believe his conviction will be reduced to manslaughter, a verdict not available to the jury at the time, and he will be released due to time already served.

Geneva convention is there for a reason. He broke it end of story. It wasn't like he'd suddenly completely lost it and gone beserk under pressure. The words he uttered to his colleagues were perfectly rational and, underpinned a coldly pre-meditated act. If he's released then it's a massive miscarriage of justice. I wonder how his supporters would feel about the situation if it were reversed, and it was he who had been shot dead. Would they support the murderer being released? I don't think so. As you say, he quite clearly broke the 1949 Geneva Convention, as he himself admitted to his colleagues as soon as he'd shot the victim. Blackman is 42 - at the time of the shooting in 2011, he'd have been 37. It's not like he was some young, wet behind the ears rookie private. He absolutely knew what he was doing. |

I think that Dr Michael Orr and Professor Neil Greenberg who both agreed that he was suffering from combat stress and adjustment disorder at the time are more qualified to make that call than egghead1, part time Internet forum poster.

Ridiculous not to grant him bail until the new trial takes place |

I agree. Moreover, pleading diminished responsbility for various bullshit reasons is what a lot of murderers hide, or try and hide behind.

people should be in jail if they are deemed to be a threat to the public,
Only days before he had witnessed his fallen comrades body parts festooned in the branches of trees as a macabre and foreboding warning of how ruthless his enemy is. This aside to call in a medivac for a already dead or dying terrorist whilst the Taliban is regrouping would have placed the entire medical team in danger of starring lead roll on one of there media clips whilst having there heads hacked off. Free Marine A and give him a medal I say tip top marine Marine A1. |

Channel 4 news tonight showed an interview with Sgt Blackmans former CO, Colonel Oliver Lee who had warned his senior officers Blackmans unit was 'out of control' and 'gone rogue'. Another said 'these guys have gone feral'.
They ignored him, but more astonishingly failed to call him to give evidence when Blackman was charged. The first Col. Lee knew of it was reading it in the newspaper! He resigned. https://www.channel4.com/news/marine...anding-officer |
