Howdy -

So I've taken a fancy to buying a projector that I could use with my laptop (and other devices) at home/ I've done a bit of research on quality and I know I'd have to spend around 500 notes for a good one, but I can't justify spending that much. So, pay for what you get, I know.

I know the cheapest ones will be crap. Example:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Mini-H...item258a6a38ec

And notably, a lot of the more expensive ones don't have many connection port options.

I'm currently looking at this one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FULL-HD-SU...item2331cb3a46

Again, won't be a patch on the more expensive, but that has better stats and while I don't have any use for 3D, the guy's feedback has a lot of good comments about it.

That is about my price limit, so if anyone in the know can help me decide on if it's worth it, I'd appreciate it. I know absolutely no one with one of these projectors!

Don't waste your money, the resolution is very low, only 800x480.

Your money will be better spent on a second hand HD ready PJ, for £20-£30 extra you could pick up something like an Optoma HD65, if you are lucky a full HD model.

Two on eBay worth considering/bidding on.....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Optoma-HD6...item338cc743d3

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Optoma-HD6...item1c3e8c0cfd

Just be aware dlp PJ's do have a side affect for some viewers, the rainbow affect, though a demo would answer this before purchasing.

That one on Ebay that said "Full HD Support" is a trick.

It will support HD, but it won't project it! HD is at the least 1280x720 dots on the screen (preferably 1920x1080 dots)

But that so-called "Full HD Support" projector is just 800x480 dots, it will look like ordinary TV resolution when projected.

At the price you want to spend, to get a decent projector will mean buying 2nd hand.

The brands that are good are:

Optoma
Acer
Benq
Nec
Sony
Panasonic

Some others as well. If in doubt then ask on DigitalSpy.

Better still find out the cost of a new one as they may lie to you and it is possible to reset the hours meter on some models. Some bulbs are very expensive indeed and their life may be short.

It's a minefield buying a 2nd hand projector.

It might be better to save up for a new one.
