EE - I hope Jack Branning never returns
I was always under the impression that the EE producers never realised how unpopular the character of Jack truly was, considering they always had him involved in high-profile storylines and always nominated Scott for awards.
So I hope DTC (or any future producer) don't write Jack Branning back into the show, I honestly think it would be one of the worst decisions they could ever make. All he did was bring down the potential of each character he was paired up with. He was just generally a bit of a useless character IMO, and I think the majority of DS seem to agree. Ronnie is in a much better direction now compared to the 'Rack' era, bringing back Jack would only weaken her character. He should never ever return, and I hope to God he doesn't |

He was one of the worst characters ever to appear in the show. Totally devoid of any charisma or personality - he actually dragged those around him down to his level of awfulness (see Ronnie, Tanya, and Sharon). I also hope he never returns.

Jack's doing the blondes of Albert Square by keeping away, one shag with the Sperminator and you were guaranteed to be up the duff.

What happened to Jack in his exit? I remember watching it, but I can't recall why he left.

I also hope Jack Branning never returns. Have him die off-screen at some point. Maybe his dodgy ex-cop past finally catches up with him (it's the least they could do considering 99% of his storylines revolved around women and out of the remaining 1%, barely 0.1% revolved around his past). No matter what happens, Plank Branning needs to stay gone.

I agree, he was awful. But Phil Hunter in the Bill was great!

What did Ronnie ever see in him or as a matter of fact anyone. His manner and everything was the kind you take the mickey out of. His smugness expand all that.
You'd think with Ronnies past and what she was like, Jack would've been the last person she would've ever gone for! |

Ronnie was at her most boring with him, 2010-2011 was the worst time for her character and of course the baby swap story didn't help. She's better off single or with someone a bit darker or more menacing, Ronnie being his "good wife" did not suit her.

And they are gross, as well. At least the Mitchell brothers had charisma (well, in the early 90s)...

I always thought he was wasted rather than being a bad actor (Scott Maslen that is). They could've given him some really dark storylines with Max. His feud with Phil never went anywhere.

Scott maslen is a decent actor when given good storylines but was wasted with terrible storylines. not his fault but scriptwriters

He was left with no direction to go in when Ronnie left. Prior to that I thought he was a great character and a real asset to the show.

To be fair, just like Roxy they never really did anything with him. He always revolved around other people's plots and never really had any chance to develop as his own character.

Jack could have been such a good character, but the writers failed him and Scott Maslen was pretty awful to watch. The same happened with Derek and Joey.

Jack on paper should have been a decent strong male character. Unofrtunately, the producers always seem to only use him as a sperminator and he became a joke of a character.
He had a dodgy past which was never explored unless he had "a contact" at the police to give him inside information. He added little to the show and was really just a love interest for Ronnie and a plot device in the Ronnie/Roxy dynamic. |
