What reason is there to suggest that Mick and Linda will make the distance?

Back in 2010 when it was announced that Kat and Alfie would be returning to the show, many expected after all the angst they went through and the love that they shared back in their first stint, that realistically they would return as a solid married couple who would make it through the tough times. Enter the first couple of episodes into their return and Kat fathered a child with ANOTHER man . After that atrocity I realised that Eastenders don't really do solid and loving marriages.

What reason is there to suggest that Mick or Linda won't suffer the same fate? If TPTB really serious about a couple who are "madly in love with each other", then Kat and Alfie out of all people would have returned this way after the way they left back in 2005.

Thanks for reading my post everyone .

Kat and Alfie's return was a mess in terms of Kat being pregnant to another man, but I guess it was just the way Kirkwood wanted to bring Michael into the show. I did love the return though, I can still remember Kat asleep in the caravan when the crane hoisted it up and Michael was watching from below.

I think as long as DTC is around they'll stay solid, they're based on his own parents so he's hardly going to want to split them up. It all depends on the producer we get after DTC, they might want to keep Mick and Linda solid or they might want an affair story. Personally, I think it is up to the producer in question.

Tina and Mick have been together for 20+ years without cheating. Kat and Alfie had been together for 5 minutes off and on when they left.

Can I just ask, when Stacey and Mick would get together in your mind, would they stay solid forever or be broken up by another affair? Just wondering.

Absolutely not. I don't believe in 'forever'. I believe in the passion of the moment, and the eternal longing therein.

I meant that after the way Kat confronted her demons and was ecstatic to start a new life with the man that she loved, it made absolutely no sense that she would take the notion to commit adultery multiple times upon their return.

Ultimately it all depends on producer and writer whims so who knows. If Dennis was still around he'd have shagged Kat again, Stacey and a lamppost for the "DRAMA" despite him and Sharon being previously written as inseparable.

Masood and Zainab joined the show as a solid married couple having been together even longer than Mick and Linda have and look a what a mess that became. Give it time, nobody is ever happy and in a stable relationship for long on eastenders.

I wonder what his self-pitying catchphrase would be in order to manipulate Sharon into thinking she contributed to him getting nasty another woman .

100% this. As someone else said, it was up to the producer, which unfortunately at the time was Berkwood, who didn't do happy couples. It was him that had Kat cheat all those times and him that made a mockery out of Masood and Zainab. Had Kat and Alfie returned under Santer, Newman or Treadwell-Collins, we wouldn't have endured that farce.

With Kirkwood, name me one couple that was faithful under him? It wasn't just Kat and Alfie that were unfaithful. It was every couple. Masood and Zainab, Ian and Jane and Christian and Syed were hit with the cheating bug and that's just to name three. They is plenty more where that came from!

DTC clearly has a different vision to Kirkwood. I'm not saying that cheating won't come somewhere down the line. This is soap. However he may not chose to have his big power couple be unfaithful.

When you look back to DTC's era, of "his" couples, the only ones that were unfaithful was Max and Tanya. However that you could believe. DTC introduced Max as a male who had a wondering eye. I remember in his first episode he was eyeing up Carly and couple of other locals. It was clear from the off that he was going to stray.

Mick, on the other hand, has been introduced as pretty much a family man who loves his wife. It's been said that Mick and Linda were childhood sweethearts and have remained faithful. Max on the other hand, we learned very quickly that he cheated on his first wife with Tanya and also, he cheated on Tanya in the past with some other woman. This was made clear to the audience very quickly.

I think IF Mick and Linda do cheat, it will most likely be under a new producer. I could be wrong but I get the impression that DTC knows his characters and what works for them. IF Mick does stray, I can't see it being a full blown affair but more like a fleeting one night stand, that he'd regret.

Because the show was under different management?

What Bryan Kirkwood did with Kat and Alfie doesn't have any bearing on what DTC said he has planned for two characters he created.

I think Mick and Linda and Sharon and Phil should be the two pour couples in the show with all the cheating left to everyone else. It also allows for them to become proper rival families.

I do really hope that both Mick and Linda stay faithful to one another.

Isn't it about time the writers thought up far more original storylines than who is shagging who?

There are people in this world who do not regard sex as that important. Millions in fact despite what the media will have you believe. But if they are lucky enough to find that special person they are happy with a soulmate until death parts them forever.

Not every bloke is like Max.

I'd replace Phil and Sharon with Kat and Alfie. There is no believable comeback for me from the fact that Phil was involved in Dennis's death and hid that fact for 8 years. I sincerely hope Sharon is with him for some sort of revenge plot.

Me too, you have no idea how much I want this to happen. Tonight I was even disappointed by the height of the Albert balcony as he wouldn't even break a toenail when she pushes him over it!

If she pushed him off Mount Everest he would not even break a toenail.

He is PHIL MITCHELL after all.
