Infinity or not.
Hi my broadband is just under 5mb download at the moment but infinity should be starting soon. I need unlimited use and you can only get that on infinity 2 or standard broadband. I don't think I need 76mb download speed but once BT have finished upgrading the cables to the boxes round the corner will my standard broadband speed go up from 5mb download speed. I hope this makes sense.
Hope somebody can give me some info. |

If BT are adding a fibre cabinet to the network then it will have zero effect on your current speed.
Even if they were ripping out and replacing the old copper cable that carries the phone network there is no guarantee it will have any effect either. Unless there was some really ropey section of cable involved. And if they are simply running in additional copper cables to the cabinet and not replacing the one carrying your line that will have zero effect also. |

If you can afford it. Do it.

As far as I know they have put in an FTTC cabinet next to the old one and I just checked the BT site and it says its available. So I guess that means if I don't go for infinity I wont see any change in speed.

Infinity 2 is £13 a month more than I pay for standard broadband so a big jump in price for me.

I have been on BT Infinity just over 3 years now and it has improved since I first got it.
im on Unlimited and get 65mb download speeds 98% of the time and have not had much problems with it in well over a year. Download speed did drop by 2mb or 3mb during the Christmas 2 weeks. I upgraded my BT TV package just over 2 months ago and have been happy with the service. Darren |

Had it about a year, and has been very consistent, download speed is generally 74Mbps & upload 17Mbps, with very little variation. |

I'm intrigued to know what they'll do on my BT Infinity 2 install , I'm taking my line from Sky however our external wiring is prehistoric and a friend told me Openreach won't touch it they'll just setup on the existing line.
Is it easy to add BT TV when your Infinity becomes active ? |

![]() Anyone know whether Openreach replace older external wiring ? Mine is really old grey wiring with a split down the middle if that makes sense it goes into a little white plastic box in the house , the wire from the pole also looks the same will this cause issues on Infinity 2 ? |

Dropwire 6 - they should probably replace this as it is obsolete and prone to all sorts of problems due to the age of it, but some contractors may not carry ladders so can't/won't do anything about it.

If its likely to interfere with the service provision then generally they will replace the cable back to the telegraph pole. They did this for me as we had a second line being installed as well, in the end everything was brand new resulting in better speeds.
