Eastenders seems to be turning Peter into a slightly darker character, and I think we're seeing some foreshadowing now of what might be to come. Does anyone else think this?

He's set to suffer two major blows over the next month or so: his twin sister Lucy dying and Lola inevitably cheating on him with Jay or breaking up with him.

Tonight we saw him drinking a lot, paying no attention to Johnny's anxiety (continuing to turn up the music etc), leering at Lauren and insulting Whitney. In the past few weeks we've seen him putting pressure on Lola to go into childcare (although I do think she's ridiculous not to have just told him she doesn't want to do it) as well as increased focus on the fact that he doesn't appear to have much of a life outside his fruit stall.

I actually think it would be a really interesting development for his character. I like the guy but he is a little bland. Would it even be outside the realms of possibility that he might be the person responsible for Lucy's death, and this is what tips him over the edge? Not saying he's going to do something intentionally, but if he had even the slightest part in something happening to her then he would probably never get over it. There's been a lot of focus in the press releases on how the death will affect Ian, but Peter is going to be hit just as hard and he might respond in an entirely different way to it.

So anyone liking/disliking this slightly edgier new Peter, and any ideas of what might be to come with him?

Yeah, he'll get back together with Lauren when she helps him with his drinking problem.

There was no need to keep him when the last actor, who's name escapes me left, Ben Hardy's Peter might as well be a new character.

Did you see him staring her Lauren's legs... maybe they could revisit his secret again, I don't want a whole change in character but a slight depth to his character would be nice.

Liking him to an extent, mostly because he makes him interesting, but also disliking him for coming across as a bit of a prat.

I'm not quite sure where they'll take him, but I can see him becoming prone to outbreaks of anger, perhaps even violence, if they do take him down a darker path.

I don't think he will go dark, but he will probably go off the rails a bit. Also, don't think Lola cheats as Jay nearly kisses her but it doesn't happen. It's more likely he will dump her after Lucy dies as he's clearly not that interested in her.

They are making him a prat so if Lola/Jay ever do something it will be all Peter's fault. I don't like what they are doing, at the beginning he was so accepting of her, Peter has never been the embarrassed or judgemental type they just everyone to love Jay/Lola romance, well I'm not fooling for it.

I loved his comeback to Whitney though . I forgot the exact comment, but she made a sarcy comment about him dating Lauren, Whitney and Lola at different points, and he was like, "well you dated most of the men around here" . I loved it .

It was a very Ian Beale-esque comeback. I think that's what we will start to see - Peter becoming more like his dad. Not neccesarily becoming darker.

Disagree with this a bit. I think he's way more into Lola then she is into him (even if he's not very good at showing it), and I can see him really emotionally leaning on her when Lucy dies, only to be hit with more devastation when she leaves him due to the pressure he's putting on her. I don't think he'll be the one to dump her. I could be wrong but it seems like all the signs are that she's the unhappy one in the relationship.

Before tonight I would've agreed with you, but the way he was looking at Lauren all night . It suggests to me he doesn't like Lola in the same way he liked Lauren. He still likes Lauren. I see it a bit like the Denise/Ian/Jane triangle - Ian loves Denise, but he has history and a bond with Jane that will never go away. But like you, I could be wrong too. Lola and Peter might both just decide that the relationship isn't working and go their seperate ways.

I guess we'll see which one of us is right, Elly .

I just find it very annoying that these 'teenagers' hang around together anyway just because they live in the same area..they have nothing in common..Peter would be trying to get Lola to somewhere a bit more upmarket..Lauren and Lucy I understand, Johnny is new to the area and he might possibly hang around with Lauren and Lucy until he finds his own friends...Whitney just doesn't fit with any of them...

What time did they go out?? it was still light outside, Albert should have been the pre-drinking stage, then they get the bus or taxi to the club that Lucy booked a booth for.

I think either outcome is realistic. I definitely see what you're saying about him and Lauren, but to me it sort of looked like drunken leering which wasn't so much focused on the fact that it was Lauren, more the fact that she was looking hot and was in his eye line.

But yes, I'll have to try and remember to bump this thread when we find out who was right.

Haha . Yeah, I guess it can just be put down to drunken leering. But the fact that there's history between Peter and Lauren means there's a good chance that there was more to Peter's leering.

Anyway, I am liking this Peter better. I like him acting like a bit of a prat - adds more personality to the character. Could you imagine the old Peter talking to Whitney like that?
He was like a mouse scared of hurting everybody's feelings .

When you have free reign of a bar you're not going to want to go anywhere else.

I agree, I found myself liking him a lot more in this episode; he was an effective little catalyst within the group. I actually want him to grow darker as a character; Ben Hardy needs something to really get his teeth into, and this is a big opportunity to completely redefine Peter.

I loved Peter's comment, I see how she was allowed to joke he had dated everyone at the 'party', but turned on the waterworks when he joked about her. She's pathetic and her crush on Johnny's pathetic.

Yeah, Peter > Whitney.

Yeah, but he doesn't live on campus which does actually make a massive difference, particularly as he also juggles his studies with a job. I know people who lived at home during university and really struggled to make friends; you tend to make far more in halls then you do in lectures and seminars.

Indeed. She's got no hope in hell in "un-gaying" Johnny. I couldn't help but chuckle when she tried to kiss him.
The character barely appears onscreen anymore as well. She only appears when the other teens are going out for a drink or whatever. Probably time for her next sex abuse storyline as she has cornered that market on EastEnders .

Agreed. Classic soap writing, the to-be-cheated on partner suddenly undergoes a personality transplant in order to facilitate sympathy for the adulterer.

Plus, Johnny's 'anxiety' was getting pretty annoying, even I would've started ignoring him by that point.

Everybody seems to be going dark (or darker in Ronnie's case) under DTC .
So I suppose Peter wouldn't be alone .

This! Why do the writers insist on making her Kat 2.0 as well? Any morsel of attention from a male and she is on them like white on rice. He's gay, love, accept it. Didn't she throw herself at Max not too long ago as well?

It's a really irritating rut they've got the character into.
