Nice thread idea
2011 - Excellent year: St Vincent, EMA, tUnE-yArDs, PJ Harvey, Fleet Foxes
2010 - Joanna Newsom's Have One On Me is one of the best albums ever made IMO plus Kanye, Flying Lotus, Arcade Fire, Beach House, Robyn 2014 - So far it has been excellent: St Vincent, Neneh Cherry, Angel Olsen, Mac Demarco, Todd Terje, Wild Beasts, EMA 2009 - Dirty Projectors, The XX, Fever Ray, La Roux 2012 - Grimes, Lana Del Rey, Frank Ocean, Tame Impala, Jessie Ware 2013 - Really disappointing in hindsight, with the exception of: Drenge, Deap Vally, Savages, Torres, Tegan and Sara and Sky Ferreira. |

2012 - My favourite year since I remember actually loving the music at the time. Became a fan of Paloma Faith; Emili Sande, Lana Del Rey; good albums from P!nk, Madonna, Kylie; and good country music from Carrie Underwood and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
2013 - Les Mis, great new releases from Celine Dion, Cher, Agnetha and Beyonce really injected some surprise and excitement into that year. 2009 - Lady Gaga, when she was good, can't remember too much apart from that. 2011 - Great releases from Kate Bush, Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton and Beyonce, but also Lady Gaga became annoying then (I can only remember this year because that year I started a yearly top 10, which I have been keeping up to date.) 2010 - Again can't remember too much, I liked Aphrodite though. 2014 - So far unremarkable, disappointed in the releases of Kylie, Paloma and Shakira. Dolly has a new album out, which should be good and I'm looking forward to the new Lana Del Rey. So it may improve. |

As I am due to listen to and decide my top 40 fave songs from the last 10 years on Easter Monday, this should give me a good idea of which order to rank them! I think in ascending order the years 2009-13 would be
5) 2012 4) 2009 3) 2010 2) 2011 1) 2013

id certainly agree with 03 being the best year out of the last 12. in fact 03 came out very high when i did the last 47 years!
i cant do the last 6.... theres a few stand out tracks in each... but it was mostly for me pretty dire. But I found 2013 absolutely incredible, and 2014 is fantastic as well so far. Every week new songs get released that I love. It's a bit surreal to me, since it's been ages since it's been like this.2003 is a really classic year, especially for club music. It's strange, since there's only a few songs from 2002 and 2004 that are still staples today, but there's probably a dozen from 2003. |

2010 (I loved some of the stuff released in the summer - Kylie, Marina & The Diamonds)
2012 (The Jubilee Concert + some singles were absolutely fantastic) 2009 (Lady Gaga, Little Boots and the end of the sales slump) 2011 (apart from Adele it was a pretty boring year) 2014 (the stuff in the singles charts is poor, but love Kylie & SEB's new albums) 2013 (the year of sleaze pop) |
