OK, thanks for that appraisal of Lana's work Chester Bennington!
Jeez way to insult me!

Linkin Park were always a terrible band - jumping on the Nu-Metal bandwagon (hardly a creditable bandwagon anyway) with there boy band styling's and awful teenage tantrum angst lyrics.

Not that I give a hoot about chart positions and sales thesedays but I will allow myself a smile if Lana beats Linkin Park

I'm sorry Soupietwist! How could I have suggested you were him in disguise , I'm sorry, please forgive me! Its just the thought of it tickled me too much . Thanks for taking that with good humour . Agree with your comments about Linkin Park and I'm glad you enjoyed listening to Lana's older material even if these new tracks aren't quite clicking with you. I think everyone can raise a glass if Lana beats them to no.1 eh ?

That said it wouldn't surprise me if jealous Chester's is actually out there on the various music forums posing as a fan, desperately trying to promote his band... and getting very annoyed when the kids keep saying "Linkin who? Never heard of 'em?"

Talking of humour...If these lyrics are correct Lana really seems to have gone into some particularly wickedly sardonic sweary humour overload for diss track F'd my way up to the top. Best point out not safe for work and all that:

The moral of this story is Lana is a very nice girl...unless you wrong her and then you are messing with the total bad@ss New York chick! Wouldn't want to be Lorde or Gaga or whoever this is aimed at right now. This really is Ultraviolence and I don't think when she hits you it will feel like a kiss. It will hurt-badly.

What I have heard so far of this album has been one big disappointment to be honest .
Im in two minds whether to buy it just in case it does grow on me.

Born to die/paradise was a masterpiece IMO. The current tracks just sound like stuff which got rejected for the original album.

Damn. I guess it's more likely to be Gaga than Lorde cause I don't like the idea of a 17 year old girl '****ing her way to the top.' Maybe she's targeting both of them, or someone else or just everyone.

You mean "original album" as in AKA Lizzy Grant?
Coz it would have been incredibly simple and almost lazy for Lana to do BTD/Paradise pt.II but she wanted to go back to her old sound that was pre-BTD.
This is the real her.

He was having a little joke, and their earlier stuff was good, so kindly take a stadium full of seats.

Not sure if any of you are fans of WWE wrestling (I am) but I rather bizarrely came across this article that combined by fanhood for both Lana and wrestling.

I like what I've heard so far but anyone claiming this is some massive departure from BTD must have cotton in their ears. The production is a little more lush but the songwriting is business as usual, right down to the third person lyrics about her tragically detached boyfriend.

I disagree
The songs still have that Lana stamp on them, but I couldn't imagine any of what has leaked to be on BTD or Paradise. Perhaps maybe West coast wouldn't of stood out on Paradise but everything else feels more grown and progressive

I'm so excited for this album, West Coast is literally my favourite Lana single so far and although SOC and UV took me a while to like them, I am obsessed with this vibe now.

I hope there's more of the light 'rapping/talkybits' like she did on Off To The Races on this album.

OMG the reworked version of Black Beauty is gorgeous with the drums

Cruel World is a little disappointing....kind of meanders a little too much for my liking.

F**ked My Way To The Top is amazing.

Hey I don't put a gun to anyones head to like this stuff but to my ears its all sounding frickin' incredible and most people would seem to agree with that. Just a brilliant continuation and evolution of Lana, nuff said!

Well... After avoiding the snippets myself and only listening to West Coast and Ultraviolence, I am absolutely blown away. I was a little worried after seeing some reaction to the other buzz tracks and the snippets but as a cohesive piece this is just painfully beautiful.

Stand-out tracks for me have to be Cruel World, Money Power Glory, Old Money and the incredible title track.

Her lyrics continue to astound me.

From first listen, the stand outs are F***ed my way up to the top and the incredibly beautiful Old Money! I stopped what I was doing to listen carefully to it and is my favourite so far on the album (beside the singles)

She definitely chose correctly with the singles as they are the 4 'best' and 'commercially best' on there... That might just be because I haven't listened to the others more than once!

I hope ULTRAVIOLENCE is a major commercial success, like it deserves to be, but beating the success and sales of BTD will be difficult...

I love that it seems to be mostly live instrumentation. That's the real big addition I think.II'm going to hold off on the leak until the proper release.

First opinion after one listen is it seems she's played it rather safe. Some nice songs, but it all feels like it's lacking the sting of BTD.

i'll be honest, I'm not blown away by the album. However, this is not me saying it's bad. I have found (especially when it came to Born To Die) that Lana's songs grow on me. Especially with this new album, I wasn't keen on West Coast or Shades of Cool but now I love them. Ultraviolence and Brooklyn Baby were quite instant to me.

With the rest of the album, the ones that have stood out to me so far are Old Money, Black Beauty and F*cked My Way Up to the Top. I need to take more time with the album it seems since i've only had one listen.

Is Black Beauty much different from the leaked version that's been on Youtube for a while?
