I adore it. I do see it as a progression while also staying true to her style. This is a lot more indie in style than Born To Die was but not as tragic queen as what Paradise was.

Either way she has done it again and cemented her position as the best song writer of her generation. Lana is the real deal. She was born to be a star.

It's definitely a record that grows on you. Only Sad Girl, Old Money, Ultraviolence, Black Beauty and F'cked My Way To The Top grabbed me on the first listen but now I find that I've grown to love pretty much every track. I wasn't sure what to make of West Coast at first but I love it now and it's probably going to be my album of the year

Black beauty deserves to be the standard and not shoved on a deluxe edition some fans may not buy.

Getting amazing reviews so far (even from the US critics). Currently 81 on metacritic (but it is early days and I'm not getting too excited yet). But there does seem to be a dea change in how the US critics are now viewing Lana and her music. They have eventually come round to the conclusion that we did years ago - that's she's the real deal. Maybe WE should be the paid critics instead?? Lol.

My deluxe edition arrived this morning, its beautifully put together and something to keep and treasure.

As for the music, well i wanted to be blown away by it and i have been totally.

After a couple of listens there are many stand out tracks,Old money, money power and glory,F*cked my way up to the top and a couple of real growers in pretty when you cry and guns and roses but still for me,Brooklyn baby is the stand out track,i think its a contender for my favourite Lana track ever and that is high praise, love her stuff so much, she is second only to Kate Bush as my fav artist ever.

It's such a treat just investing time into this record. Each listen brings out new textures and meanings and sounds and interpretations.

It's not as instant as BTD but it's definitely more rewarding.

I agree,i just cant stop listening to it and like you say it changes and grows each time,i think its magnificent, the only track i cant get into is the other woman which happens to be the only track not written by Lana, maybe it will grow on me.

I got my deluxe box set this morning and love it. The album is beautiful and dark. It makes me want to go to the beach at sunset and get high

Absolutely love Ultraviolence, Brooklyn Baby, West Coast, Pretty When You Cry, Money Power Glory, F'ed My Way Up To The Top, Old Money, Black Beauty and Florida Kilos....basically the whole album. There is not one track I really dislike either. Flipside is brilliant too - shame we haven't got it on any of the UK versions

This fascinates me as Kate Bush is my favourite artist, too, with Lana being a close second. I think I just like singers who tell stories with their songs, which is what Kate and Lana both do better than I've heard from almost anyone else in the music world.

I'm going to see Kate in September, which I never thought would happen! I hope to see Lana too on her next tour as I couldn't make it to the Paradise gigs.

I still haven't heard the title track Ultraviolence yet, but I'm listening to West Coast, Brooklyn Baby and Shades Of Cool constantly. I pre-ordered the CD from Amazon and can't wait to receive it!

I've been rabbiting on for weeks about how excited I am for this album and now it seems like I'm the only one who hasn't heard it.

I'll be getting it upon release tomorrow and boring you all with my thoughts in no time.
Thanks for the link to that interview earlier Dragon Lance. I didn't realise that the rich father thing was basically untrue.

I pre-ordered the deluxe CD and was surprised it arrived this morning!!

Cruel World is absolutely stunning and a glorious opener to the album.

I still can't fully love Ultraviolence (the song). The verses are so brilliant (and are stuck in my head) but the chorus is such a chore imo to listen to (Ultraaaaviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiolence zzzz ). This would be one of my favourites if it wasn't for the chorus.

I love Shades of Cool and I really enjoy West Coast all the more too within the album as a whole. It's a nice change of pace (even if it's only slight).

I really love the simplicity of Old Money too.

On the first few listens, I wish there was a bit more variety though (both in tempo and the lyrics). But as a listening experience it reminds me of Goldfrapp's Tales of Us... in that I want to absorb it slowly and take in each song on it's own. It's definitely growing on me each time

This album reminds me of albums by the band 'The National' (only not as good, sorry peeps). It's all tonely very similar it really could do with a couple of different tempo tracks to mix it up - another Off To The Races or Radio midway though the album would spicy things up - I tend to find myself drifting off as the second half starts.

It really lacks a killer cut imo - I'd take Videogames, Born To Die, Ride and American over the best song on this album (a toss up between Cruel World or Sad Girl). On the plus side there is nothing absolutely rubbish on this album (Born to Die had a few songs I'd skip).

Hmm I'd give it a 6/10 I think. Enough to keep my interest in Lana alive, but expecting something better next time out.

Nor me. It goes to show how desperate the media are when it comes to spreading total lies.

I think it's amazing Lana's volunteered for homeless shelters, maybe it will inspire some of her fans to do charity work too.

Just had my first listen to the album (haven't heard the deluxe songs yet.) I think there's a lot of beauty in there and some of the songs really are gorgeous - Old Money especially. I love the addition of the live instrumentation instead of the computer stuff. There are lots of lovely little guitar lines and drumming throughout. I agree with what some people have said that the album could do with a couple of uptempo numbers and nothing has quite matches the exhilaration of hearing Ride for the first time. Still, I think this will be a grower and I'll need to listen to it a good few more times to come to a final judgement. Overall, it's positive though.

Just onto Black Beauty now. Seems really weird to listen to because I'm so used to the rawness of the demo version. Still beautiful but I'll need time to get used to it. Is this version in a quicker tempo or does the addition of the drums just create that impression?

I didn't realise that the album was out now! Gotta go buy it. I'm going to buy the deluxe edition.

I'll be listening to it on spotify until it arrives. I loved her first album so I have high hopes for this.

What are your favourite songs?

Album came

Bit annoyed. Hate carboard cd cases with a passion. Your discs get scratched really easily. I know they are cheap to produce but in the long run, you end up replacing the cd in a few months. I normally avoid them but i couldn't pass up the chance to not have the bonus tracks so i caved in. I know the standard edition is of a normal cd case.

Yes mine came too and its ****ing cardbroad!! I hate cases like this. So cheap. It sort of takes away from the album. I bet the UK is the only country that did this too.
