Will we meet Linda Carter's family?

I adore Linda. Yes her views regarding Johnny piss me off, but despite that, i think she a brilliant character played wonderfully by Kellie Bright.

Is anyone here interested in meeting her family? We know her mum rings up a lot and they normally try to avoid talking to her. Would love to see Linda's family, to understand why she is the way she is regarding Johnny and perhaps who she is overall.

I think Linda's mum will be one of these unseen characters for now, we know she knows how to run a bar so my guess is in about 3-4 years if Danny Dyer has decided to move on and perhaps one of the kids has as well then they will bring in Linda's mum to help her run the Vic.

Agree with the post above. There are too many Carters at the moment.

They wouldn't be carters, they would be whatever Linda's maiden name was

I agree, there are a lot characters relating back to the carters on the show at the moment. But i wasn't saying for it to happen now, i'm talking about in the near future.

Linda's family wouldn't be Carters though, they could be very different from Mick's family.

Which reminds me, will a female character in EastEnders ever keep her surname once she has married?

Janine did when she married Michael.

It'd still mean more screen time for Linda, who is part of the Carters. Unfortunately in soapland, the families don't seem to be thought of separately after marriage.

No doubt some all-screaming all-shouting mother and/or sister will be brought in at some stage to compete with Linda.

Well, not a lot of women in real life really keep their name anyway.

Linda should never have been created. Period.

One of my aunts did.

She's a groundbreaker then

Personally, I think everyone should keep their own names.

Not even if she'd been played by Martine?

I can see it from two sides personally, one is that you want to be united and make a commitment to each other but the other argument is that it is outdated and left over from a tradition where the wife was a husband's property. You could always do what Victoria Coren did when she married David Mitchell, she became Victoria Coren Mitchell.

True. I do agree it's nice for an entire family to share a name. Maybe the government should give every newly married couple a new random surname, that way it's fair. Besides double-barrelled names can get messy and are a bit of a mouthful.

Personally I do think it's outdated and patriarchal, but I can see why people do it. To be honest it's just a left over from those times, like many things. Lots of countries do it differently however.

Yeah, I agree. I think in Spain a child takes both parents names, but I don't know what they do when they marry then? Seems a bit complicated lol!
