Was Stan implying that it was Shirley who tried to drown Mick? Or possibly it was an accident and he is embellishing?

I think Stan told the story but said it was Sylvie rather than Shirley to make Shirley let him stay at the Vic.

It did seem like it was Shirley, she may have had a breakdown while trying to look after the family and cope with Stan's nastiness and drinking. Stan said it was Sylvie to make sure she let him stay and have some power of Mick and the others.

Either that or was Sylvie and she's still alive, soon to make a return. We saw Aunt Babe talking to someone on the phone a few months ago, made it look like Sylvie was living and relying on her.

It was definitely implied to be shirley. How can they bring her character back from that!? It probably is why she left home, but why did she do it?!

I agree, twisted old bugger. Bet that's what made Shirley leave home.

Mental breakdown? Stan said he pushed "her" aside but she still just stared at the water, presumably expressionless which indicates she didn't know what she was doing.

We'll probably find out just how much Stan's behaviour impacted her and how she suffered causing her to completely break.

I think Stan could be a brilliantly dark character, his manipulation is great but my main concern is he'll just be evil for the sake of it and become this Christmas' whodunnit a la Archie Mitchell. I hope there's some breaks of sunshine in him, even if it turns out to b some sort of plan.

I don't think Shirley ever wanted Mick or Tina to know the truth about their mother and that's why she was upset. We saw her telling them what fun she was etc when Babe first arrived. She then had that conversation with Babe outside the Vic where she spoke of her mother's cruelty.

Not sure why he contradicted himself, one minute it was Shirley's fault that she left and now he's saying that he threw her out.

The melodrama speeches are boring and nobody talks like that. And if Stan is so terrible why take his money if you are decent people. Its completely over the top.

Hmm I've changed my mind....I think it's either Shirley that tried to drown Mick, or Shirley blames herself that she couldn't stop Sylvie doing it

I really wish the producers would admit defeat and make Shirley a villain. That is the only way I'm going to find her watchable if she really has to be the main player of the show at the moment. Currently Ronnie is one the most watchable female characters on the show at the minute as the producers finally realised what type of character she really is, none of this whole overused 'tragic heroine' rubbish.

There is some characters that have the heroine persona i.e. Kat and Sharon and some that don't have it, Shirley and Ronnie for example.

Do you think Stan has a narcissistic personality disorder?
