I had to to a factory rest of my Nexus 7 2012 model back in October as the home screen was very slow in loading. Last night the same happed angin and I had to do another factory reset. I will have had the Nexus 7 for nearly 2 years come August and this is the second time I have to do factory reset.
Apart from the two resets the Nexus 7 has been mostly fine
Anyone else had this sort of problem with the Nexus 2012 model.
My almost 7 month old Nexus 4 has been fine.

Its a wild guess but It wasn't possibly left on to go flat/get a low battery/low voltage memory corruption?

Dodgy batteries can also cause voltage drop complications.

Have let it go to 35% battery once in a while before I have charged it.
My sister don't rate the Nexus 7. She thinks the IPad Mini or the Samsung are better tablets.
She has an Ipad Mini from not long after they first came out.

Anything needing a factory reset is memory corruption.
Once a year is not dramatic even if zero is preferred.

Regarding battery, I was thinking you might have left it for a week or two to fully drain in standby. Whilst its norm to 'standby' turning fully off covers that increased standby drain risk.

I 9 times out of 10 turn the tablet off when I not using it. All seems to be work fine after the reset the other night. As said this was the second rest I had to do within 6 months. Come August I will have had it 2 years.
