He has his father to protect him from Philth.

Mick loves his son more than anything in the world, he would never let Philth bully or hurt him.

Or would he?

Are TPTB setting Philth up to 'own' Mick in a dispute over his son?

I would not put it past them.

Because Sharon was going to 'adopt' him.

Why would he need his father? Johnny is a 19/20 year and is a young adult while Phil is in his fifties with a heart defeat. Johnny can fight his own battles as he has the upper hand.

It would have been nice to see Johnny stand up for himself instead of running away, Johnny may be a quiet boy but do they seriously expect us to believe Johnny would be soo scared of Philth.
As for Philth making fun of Johnny for being a mummy's boy, someone needs to remind him how far up Peggy's arse he was.

Good point, I am just surprised he never got it on with the strychnine dwarf!

Johnny doesn't seem like the fighting type, Mick does if pushed.

Johnny doesn't know about Phil's heart condition, but yes Phil is nowhere near as threatening as he used to be. Now if Grant came back he'd be a convincing tough older guy....

I get the impression that Johnny has probably never needed to stand up for himself at all with Lee and Nancy as his older brother and sister. And Phil Mitchell's reputation precedes him, even if in reality it's a joke that someone like him could intimidate anyone. So that's probably why he was worried. But I've no doubt Mick would intervene and absolutely batter Phil if he ever got genuinely nasty with Johnny.

Fat, bald little men reign supreme in EE. Plus, Phil has a penchant for weapons

It's high time Phil got his comeuppance. He's sold the Carters a pub with a damp problem and has helped his girlfriend set up a rival bar. If he does anything to Johnny I'd expect Mick to come down on old Phil like a ton of bricks. How old will Phil be before he is beaten? Will he threaten to throw his zimmer frame at rivals once he's an OAP?

Never, it's a simple as that.

It got old when people like Dan Sullivan and Steve Owen could not beat him.

Luckily he's got a hard as nails family to stand up for him when he gets himself into trouble - and yes, I'm including Linda in that as I bet she'd be well scrappy in a fight.

It seems to be effective on the woman of Walford anyway

I still think the Mitchells win in the 'utterly deranged' stakes but Johnny could easily go, "Auntie Shirley?" and Phil would be instantly silenced. Who needs Mick and Linda when you have a Terrahawk who has dirt on you!

More importantly, how is Philth going to handle the inevitable hook-up between Johnny and Ben 3.0?

Please, don't. I will genuinely be heartbroken if lovely, sweet Johnny has to endure a relationship with that creepy, 'daddy issues' murderer.

Philth will no doubt respond by threatening Johnny every other scene, while Ben will take sadistic delight in winding Phil up further by molesting Johnny in front of him. It'd be so gross and disturbing.

Ugh.

I couldn't agree with you more, el, especially considering Johnny has such a healthy relationship with his father. I don't want psycho Ben to mess him up. I don't suppose there's much chance of Ben actually coming out of prison as a redeemed, well-adjusted young man?

Ugh, you're so right! Johnny would become nothing more than a pawn in the Mitchells' sick games. I also hope Johnny doesn't go out with Ben as some stupid plot to wind up Shirley, who will no doubt warn him off.

Sadly I think that if Ben ever returns, this storyline is destined to happen for all those reasons: pitting the Mitchells against the Carters, sending Shirley into a meltdown and giving Phil a further opportunity to do his grunting ape routine. We can only hope that DTC sees Ben as 'done' as a character and doesn't bring him back. I would rather they brought back Stephen Beale for Johnny if they really want him with someone familiar; even though he was also messed up, you get the impression he could probably be rehabilitated through therapy. But mostly I just think they need to bring in a new character as Johnny's first boyfriend, rather than dredging up the show's fairly dodgy previous representations of young gay men.

Completely agree. The last thing we need is those ridiclous, 'tortured souls' gays back. Johnny is leading the way as a decent, realistic portrayal as a gay young man. I don't really see what more they can do with Ben anyway. Plus, he's surely got to be in prison for donkey's years, in spite of EE's poetic take on the Great British justice system Especially, as you say, if it's going to be a cheap ploy to incite a feud between the Mitchells and the Carters. Let's hope Ben's in prison for 10 years so if he ever does come back, Johnny can be settled with someone else.

And then they could just turn Jay gay and there you go!

Phil would not except it at first "My boy ain't getting involved with a Carter!", but when he does I can imagine him saying "Well you can marry now can't ya? Make an honest man out of my Ben, you're gonna propose".Then Ronnie walks in and says "Welcome to the Mitchells Johnny" before stroking his hair in a sinister way.

What family would Phil be okay with? LOL! He doesn't like the Beales, the Brannings, the Slaters and now, the Carters!

Haha, love that Ronnie bit! So accurate, "You're my new Danielle, my pretty!". And Roxy would try to be his fag hag.

I doubt Phil will really by content with his son dating any guy, anyway.
